Gerald Sellnow Obituary

Gerald Spencer Sellnow passed away peacefully on September 9, 2025, in Citrus Heights, California, at the age of 84. Born in Staples, Minnesota, on March 17, 1941, Gerald lived a life defined by creativity and craftsmanship, and a profound love for Coca-Cola beverages.

He proudly served in the US Air Force from August 8, 1961, to December 17, 1969, achieving the rank of Captain. During the Vietnam War, Gerald served as a Weapons Systems Officer and Navigator aboard F-4 fighter jets, demonstrating courage, precision, and dedication, and earning the US Air Medal for "Meritorious Achievement in Aerial Flight" for a mission in August, 1969.

Upon returning home, he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Arts & Music and spent several years as a substitute music teacher in Sacramento area schools. He served as Cubmaster for Pack 447 of the Cub Scouts, coached area Little League teams, and was also part of the Masonic Lodge where he earned the level of Masonic Master.

Gerald was also a lifelong craftsman. Whether constructing backyard decks or building smaller crafts to sell at craft shows, his creativity was always in motion. He had a knack for turning raw materials into something useful, beautiful, or just plain clever. The joy he put into creating them was evident in every piece.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Ruth Sellnow; his brother, Ron Sellnow; and his sister, Karen Barron. He is survived by his devoted wife, Sandra Sellnow, and two sons: Brian Sellnow and Bruce Sellnow (wife Nancy). He was a proud grandfather to Chris Sellnow, Amber Frere (husband Matt, children Grayson and Weston), Mauricio Sellnow, and Katie Juarez (children Ryder, Axton, Mila, and Malia). He is also survived by his sisters, Sandie Bollenbacher (husband Lee) and Janell Dezell (husband Craig), along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

He will be remembered for his thoughtful wisdom and the steady presence he offered to all who knew him. Gerald's memory will be cherished and carried forward with love and honor, and he will be missed by all who knew him.

DAVID WILLIAMS

September 15, 2025

Gerry and his family lived next door to my family in North Highlands, California, while he was a Captain in the Air Force in the mid-60s. I was a pre and young teen. According to the obit he was ten years older than me, though at the time I had no idea. Loved him, his wife, and kids. They were fun, loving, and giving; a great family whose memory has stayed with me over these decades. I send love to his surviving relatives and all who loved him.
