Glenn BEIER Obituary

BEIER, Glenn Warren
Nov. 10, 1927 - June 15, 2012
Glenn Warren Beier was born Nov. 10, 1927, to Otto and Doris Beier of Fresno, Calif. He passed away on June 15, 2012. In the early years of Glenn's life he developed a love of photography. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp as company photographer. He graduated from the prestigious Art Center School of Photography in Los Angeles. He photographed many famous celebrities including Bob Hope, Nat King Cole, Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly. Glenn was also a train enthusiast. He photographed steam-era railroading in the western United States, culminating in one of his greatest accomplishments, publishing 'Steam Echoes: The Railroad Photography of Glenn Beier.' He found great joy in model railroading and enjoyed sharing this love with family and friends. He worked for Aerojet General Corp for more than 35 years as a staff photographer, visually documenting the rocket and missile propulsion testing. Glenn is survived by his wife of 37 years, Naomi; four children, Glenna Quinzon (Lynn), Karen Szakacs (Gary), Robin Beier (Jane), and Heather Davis (Ben); and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed. A memorial will be held on Saturday, June 23, at 11 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 3275 Cedar Ravine Road in Placerville, Calif.

I never met Glenn, but it was great to share our work together in the "Sierra Railway Journal"

We first met Glenn through Motorcar Operators West and enjoyed getting to know him. We eventually purchased two of Glenn's Westside Lumber Railroad photos, which are prominently displayed in our family room. Glenn was a kind man and a gifted photographer. Our sympathies to the Beier family.

I will miss my dad very much, but I will not miss what he had to go through with Alzheimer's disease. I am thankful for every day that I had with him. Love you, Dad!!!

I am sorry to hear of Glenn's passing. I enjoyed knowing and working with Glenn at Aerojet. He was a very good photographer and fun to work with. I still have photos he took of the projects we worked on at Aerojet.

My grandpa was as honest and hardworking as they come! I'm very thankful for the 33 years I was able to spend with him. I'm a better man because of it. I will miss his open ear and thoughtful insight. Love you buddy!!!
