Gordon Wall Obituary

Gordon Lee Wall

February 1, 1938 - March 5, 2024

Sacramento, California - Gordon Lee Wall passed away on March 5, 2024, to rejoin his beloved, Donna, on a houseboat in the celestial river. He spent his life figuring out how things worked, building and fixing everything, including his 90-year-old brick building that he owned for over 50 years, three vintage Ford pick-ups, several large-scale radio-controlled vehicles, and a big collection of banjos, ukuleles, mandolins, and guitars. One of his great joys was finding broken guitars at flea markets and yard sales, taking them home, and making them look new again. He was a skilled, though shy, musician and singer who could be coaxed to play for friends and family after a couple cans of Coors. He was born in Pocatello, Idaho, on February 1, 1938, to Pete and Wanda Wall (both now deceased) and moved to California in 1950. He attended Grant High School in order to learn the printing trade where he met Donna Bills (Wall). They were married for 46 years before her passing in March, 2002. He owned and operated Gordon L. Wall Printers on Oxford Street in North Sacramento for 25 years. He is survived by his daughter, Terrie Wall Gaines, and three grandkids – Jared, Aaron, and Joy Gaines – who he taught to play poker and for whom he built guitars, tree swings, science projects, and the sturdiest basketball hoop in North America. He is also survived by his sister, Judith Wall Rix, who he talked to on the phone every day; his nephew, Brian Rix and his family in Atlanta; and he was great-uncle to S. Rix. He has a granddaughter-in-law, Mara Davi Gaines, and two curious great-grandkids, Arthur and Audrey Gaines, who carry on their Great-Grampa Gordon's legacy of playing music and taking apart their toys to see how they work. At his request, there will be no public service.
