Hamid Ahmadi Obituary

Hamid Ahmadi
November 15, 1945 - January 8, 2021
Gold River , California - Dr. Hamid Ahmadi passed on January, 8, 2021 after a short and very unexpected illness.
Hamid Ahmadi was born in Iran and spent most of his life in the United States. He attended Claremont Graduate University in California and received a Ph.D. in finance. He then moved to California State University, Sacramento where he became a professor of finance in the College of Business Administration and taught highly regarded undergraduate and graduate courses in finance and modern portfolio management. His courses were tough but fair and he was voted an outstanding teacher. He was very student oriented and his students were well prepared and popular with local businesses.
He also served as a visiting professor at Stanford University as well as universities around the world. He published widely on portfolio management and investment strategies and was in demand as a consultant and advisor to numerous individuals and organizations.
Hamid was generous with his time and expertise and was a frequent speaker at local organizations. He loved literature and always had two or three books he was reading. He loved films and was knowledgeable about their production and content. He and his wife were enthusiastic world travelers and there few places they had not visited and really appreciated. Hamid was a "people" person who made friends easily and really enjoyed discussions on almost any topic.
He is survived by his loving wife Pari, three older brothers and many nieces and nephews.
Due to COVID restrictions for gatherings, there will be no formal service but a memorial event will be planned for later when we can all gather together safely and celebrate his life.

I came to this almost four years late, after thinking of Dr. Ahmadi amid current events. I am so grateful to have encountered Dr. Ahmadi at Sac State. I only took one class from him as an undergraduate. That was around 2002, and I don't recall the exact name, but it was a financial analysis class focused on understanding risk and the development of an "efficient frontier" portfolio using Excel. I'm pretty sure I still have a spreadsheet with an example from the class somewhere.

At some point during the course, I showed Dr. Ahmadi a copy of the spreadsheet I had enhanced to let the user populate the historical asset price cells by automatically fetching online data on the assets under consideration. After that, we spoke quite frequently and, I think, became friends. He graciously took me to dinner after I graduated. We touched base occasionally until about six months later when I left Sacramento. After that, we largely lost touch.

Thank you, Dr. Ahmadi, for the generosity of your time. You made an impression on me and, I'm sure, hundreds of others.

Professor you had a major impact on my life. Because of your encouragement, I went on to earn a Ph.D in economics which made my life immeasurably better. I am so sad to hear of your passing. I will always remember your kind and gentle supervision.

Dr. ahmadi. I am saddened to see your smiling face in an obituary. You made a huge impact in my life being my professor at Sac State and created a career path for me that started the direction of things for me after graduation. You and Pari even joined us at our housewarming we were so honored by your warmth and closeness to our family and lives. We hope you rest peacefully...your legacy will live forever.

Hamid:

Thank you for changing the direction of my life. You had a consulting job in 1992 and brought me in to analyze financial data. I remember meeting you and sometimes you and Pari at various locations around Sacramento to discuss a variety of topics. Well, it is 29 years later and I’m still working at that same joint powers authority and still analyzing financial and claims data and a whole lot more!!!

May you Rest In Peace.

Amoo, even though we have not spent as much time together as I wished we had, my heart is in grief. You were a beloved member of our family and I am sad we could not enjoy more of your great personality, knowledge and kindness. I am proud to call you my great uncle and I love you. May you rest in peace. Fondly, Diana
