KIMMEL, Helen McLean
Born on October 17, 1914, on a farm one mile northwest of Saffordville, Kan., to Ira Ellswotth Haskell and Nina Emelda McLean Haskell, passed away peacefully in her home on January 9, 2010. Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Albert Kimmel, son Richard Lee Kimmel and her elder sister Harriett Davis. She is survived by her son Gary Kimmel and his wife Jill, son Jack Kimmel and his wife Janice, grandchildren Julie Davies, Karen Freeman (Andy), Mike Kimmel (Julie), Sally Henrich (Craig), Nancy Christopher (Jamie), Brian Kimmel (Wendy), and Kristina Kimmel, and 13 grandchildren. Helen graduated from East High School in Wichita and attended Wichita University before spending several years working for Curtis Publishing. She was a member of Tuesday Club, Mercy Guild, and the Cancer League. Helen loved playing golf with the 18-hole group at Del Paso Country Club. She also enjoyed her bridge groups, gardening, photography, traveling, and entertaining. She was a member of Fremont Presbyterian Church for over 55 years. Helen loved the Lord and took her last breath during a prayer with Nona, her dear friend and companion for the past several years. She touched the lives of so many and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A private family service will be held at East Lawn Memorial Park.

I remember Helen fondly. I just printed out the guest book and obit to give to my mom, Connie Connell, who has lived in VA with me and my husband since Sept '09. Mom and I and Peggy Brown visited Helen last Sept and she looked as great as ever.
All the best,

Dear Gary, JilI and family. I almost called to see if Helen still had her same phone number during Christmas. I called her a couple of years ago.A lady was staying with her at that time and said Helen might not know who I was. When she stopped writing, I wondered if she was alright.

She I were such close friends over all these years, writing and talking on the phone occasionally in our most recent years due to aging, I suppose. I have had and still have many friends, but none I ever loved more than I loved Helen. We had so much in common and loved being together laughing at everything in life.

My Peter, Darling died October 6, 2008 at home after a short illness due to diabetes. His mind was still bright as ever. He took great care of me during life and has left me well cared for after his death. I have a great relationship with his children and grandchildren. We were married 36 years and they are like mine.

My daughter & family and my son live nearby. So I am very happy back home in Alabama for the past 26 years.

I will be making a donation to a charity in Helen's name. I will give them your address if I find it on this website.

I hope all is well with your family & Jack's family. Love to you all, Tomasina Werner

This is a "Special Prayer" for my Julie, Laurel, Trevor, Karen, Andy, Natalie, Daniel and Michael, Julie, Chloe and Emily.

MAY ALL YOUR MEMORIES OF YOUR "GRANDMOTHER HELEN" ease your pain of her passing:)

i'm seeking words of "compassion" and a "heartfelt gift of love ,from me, to all eleven of you:)"

May you all continue on the paths you're already on towards a closer relationship with "OUR HEAVENLY FATHER AND HIS SON, JESUS. We are all on this path together:)

I closed my eyes for a moment of silent prayer for what words to use and this is what came to me.

"Trust in the LORD with ALL your understanding and HE, IN HIS INFINITE WISDOM, WILL GIVE YOU PEACE AND LOVE THAT SURPASSES ALL UNDERSTANDING:)"

What's a mystery to us now on DEATH, will someday, in eternity, be revealed to us all!

WITH ALL OUR LOVE AND COMPASSION,

AUNT JAN AND UNCLE ALTON:):):):):):):):):):):)
(A SMILE :) FOR EACH ONE OF YOU)

She was a wonderful grandmother, the best. A great champion of a college education, too.

Grandma Helen was the best - a very special lady. Her impact on the life of all her grandchildren is immeasurable. She was a great blessing to us. Now she is at the Lord's wonderful banquet, where she will hear the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant."

Love, Karen
