Herbert A. Plucker, 86, of Sacramento, CA, passed away peacefully at his home, Sunday, June 25, 2017. Herb was born in Blandon, PA., February 11, 1931, a son of the late Ida (Burkert) and Herbert A. Plucker. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Marcia A. (Roth) daughter of the late Herbert E. and Betty (Wolfe) Roth of Mohrsville, PA. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and later becoming a commissioned officer in the US Air Force to pursue his love of flying. He retired after 23 years in the Air Force with the rank of Major. During those years he flew all over the world as an Air Force navigator and a licensed private pilot having been stationed in Germany, Japan, Illinois, Puerto Rico, South East Asia, and Sacramento. He received his nickname of Hurricane Herb as a member of the 53rd Weather Squadron - the Hurricane Hunters. After retirement, he became a charter pilot, an airframe and power plant mechanic, and flight instructor. After he retired from his retirement, he enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events, volunteering as a Young Eagle's pilot with over 200 flights, being involved in the Experimental Aircraft Association, attending and watching NASCAR races, and just talking about anything aircraft related with anyone. He is survived by: daughter, Stephanie A. Plucker of Lincoln, CA; son, Gregory A. Plucker and daughter-in-law Cindy L. (Robinson) of Colusa, CA; son, Keith A. Plucker of Sacramento, CA; sister, (Candace) Isabel widow of Richard Barr of Mohnton, PA; brother, Richard Plucker, husband of Doris of Newark, Del.; brother Myron Plucker of Montana; sister-in-law Lois (Fisher) widow of William Plucker of Deer Lake, PA; granddaughter Chelsea L. Plucker; and grandsons Garrett A. and Greyson A Plucker. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved to visit on his annual trips to Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ardell and her beloved husband Jesse Rickenbach; and grandson Patrick Brady. Major Plucker will be laid to rest with full military honors at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery next to his wife, Marcia.
