Herman McCarty Obituary

McCARTY, Herman
(Buddy) (Mac)
Passed away September 1, 2006 at age 89. Born December 7, 1916 in Antlers, Oklahoma to Cloid & Mary McCarty. He was the youngest of their 13 children. Raised and educated in Antlers, Oklahoma, as a teenager he joined the Conservation Corp during the Great Depression and helped support the family back home. In 1939 he met and married Leoma Jean Hauk while they both attended Oklahoma State University. They raised a son, Roland and daughter, Cheryl and were married for 43 years. The family moved to Carmichael, CA in the mid 1950s. Papa set up the preliminary facility and warehouse to begin building Folsom Dam. He left the construction industry to work as a real estate broker, then later owned and operated his hardware store in Rio Linda. In 1982, his wife Leoma passed away. He later married Dorothy Sullivan and moved to Klamath Falls, Oregon, to retire and fish, but soon began buying, selling and developing real estate even though he was well into his 70's then. Papa and Dorothy returned to the Sacramento area in 2000. Dorothy passed away in 2002. He was fortunate to reside in his own home with the aid of his caregiver, Carol Anne Shaw, for the past four years. Always a gentleman, cheerful, and loving, he will be deeply missed by family and friends. He is survived by his son, Roland McCarty; daughter, Cheryl Raney; grandchildren, Marcy McCarty, Tauni Bennett, and Jeff Reed; and great-granddaughter, Chelsea Bennett. We were blessed to have him and love him and he is now with God. A celebration of his life will be held Thurs. Sept. 7 at 11am at Roseville Community Church, 125 Franklin St., Roseville. Following the celebration, lunch will be provided. Contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made the Roseville Community Church, 916-786-7233.
