Jennifer and Kristina - I think the Giants won just for your dad! There were a couple of plays that he had to have had a hand in!

The article about James Jewitt was a surprise. I went to grammer school (Cental School) and catachism at the Star of The Sea with "Jimmy". I haven't heard that name since grammer school.
He lived off of Caladonia street if memory serves me, and always seemed like he wanted to be a fireman. When the fire alarm sounded, he would be off with his bike trailing them. Don't know if he ever pursued a job in that area. That was a long time ago, He was nice and a few of us had fun together. I am not sure were he ended up going to High School, but don't remeber him going to Tam.
It is funny you think of those kids that you grew up with like they were when you knew them, still as kids, it's hard to believe we have all grown up.
My heart goes out to his family, I was 38 with two small children when I loss my 1st husband, so I can have empathy for what the family must be going through.

Whenever I hear of a Greyhound Bus accident I always wonder if it's a driver I worked with or knew of back in the day when I drove for the "Dog". Sadly this time I knew this name all to well. When I heard the name of the driver of the Greyhound Bus was Jim Jewett I really could"nt belive it was the same Jim Jewett that I started out my driving career with back in 1978 in San Francisco.Jim was in the class ahead of me,and I remember him as being the nicest, most freindly, quiet, honest person I knew at Greyhound. I say honest person because he once borrowed 50cents from me to buy a coke. I forget how many years later when he got his transfered to Sacramento, the last day I saw him he handed me 50cents and said thanks.I had long forgotten about it and I thought wow, he remembered all this time to repay me. I think he would've repaid me a nickle, thats how honest he was. Even through it's been more than twenty-five years since I last saw Jim, seeing his picture now,him smiling,is how I'll remember him. May God bless you Jim and your family.

Eulogy for James Jim Jewett Memorial
Delivered by
Greyhound Driver Christopher Marshall
Chief Shop Steward, ATU 1700 Region 5
Good Morning
I stand here proudly representing the thousands of Greyhound Drivers throughout the entire United States of America to honor a fallen hero~
Driver Jim Jewett.
Jim's death was sudden and truly caught me
off-guard. I remember when I first heard the news from Dallas dispatch, shortly after the accident to alert me of the tragedy. I simply could not believe it ~no way,not Jim.
I just sat stunned and I reminisced back in time. It was over 32 years ago on May 30th 1978 when Jim and I met each other as we began our orientation class together in San Francisco. We were two young men living out our childhood dream to become drivers for
Greyhound Lines. Jim and I hit it off from day one! He has never changed his demeanor since I met him. I was the radical and Jim was always the cool, calm and collected one. Out of our class of 40 men and women, Jim and I were the only two drivers left. We had been close friends over the last 32 years. We shared alot of time together. He spoke often of his strong faith in God, his dedication to family and of course, his love for the San Francisco Giants Baseball Club.
As Chief Shop Steward, I have gotten to know hundreds of drivers on very personal levels, but I can honestly say that Jim was one of the most professional and safest drivers that I have ever come to know during my career at Greyhound. During the many years of working together, I have never heard anything other than compliments and kind words about this compassionate man. Jim always wanted to make people happy or leave them smiling and feeling everything was gonna be alright, whether it was the supervisors, us drivers, the ticket agents, or the baggage handlers.
~ Yes everyone we definitely lost one of Greyhounds finest July 22nd 2010. I have recieved calls non-stop from drivers all over the country expressing their condolences and heartfelt sentiments mostly stating~ " Jim was not just a driver, but a great man, friend and brother to us all here at Greyhound!"
This will be the trademark and legacy he leaves with us today. Each time that I pick up my schedule, board my bus and sit down behind the wheel, I will be driving in Jim's honor. As Greyhound drivers we will all "carry the torch" and continue to keep his positive spirit alive!
I will conclude now by saying that although Jim was called home, I know that in the right time, I will see him again. We will all see Jim again. Yes, he will make us all laugh again. And no doubt when I arrive, Jim will be greeting me wearing his SF Giants baseball cap, t-shirt and jeans with his usual~ "Hey old fart, are we having fun yet?" I'll laugh and give him my usual reply, ~ "Hey you old fart are YOU havin' fun yet?"
Here's to you my good buddy till we meet again!

Cathy, I am so sorry to hear that Jim is gone. We have many wonderful memories of spending time with your family. Jim loved you so much. I still remember the "Valentine" picture he had done for you. We will never forget his smile and compassion for all others. If there is ever anything we can do - please let us. It will be our honor.

A Grateful Greyhound Passenger
July 30, 2010
Jim was one of the most kind and respectful drivers I have ever had the pleasure riding Greyhound with. His professionalism, even when faced with difficult passengers always intrigued me. He was quiet and patient, yet always the "captain of the ship" . Jim could calm any rough sea. He ensured that our ride was smooth, safe and comfortable. On many occassions he contended with language barriers or passengers who wanted to get too loud. Jim never seemed to mind repeating the same instructions to the same passengers over and over again, with the same calm and courteous manner. Right before he started off for the bus trip, Jim would look back at me in his rear-view mirror and smile, knowing that I would give him a thumbs-up for handling even the most "unruly passenger" like the pro he was.
~ To the Jewitt famly,
Although Jim logged in thousands of miles on the highway, it was evident that he was truly a family man. Take comort in knowing that Jim's gentle spirit and contagious smile will remain close in many hearts. He will never be forgotten. May God Bless You All.

It was an honor and a blessing to work and get to know James. Every day he came in with a smile asking us all if we were having fun yet. With his kindness and jokes he quickly became like family to me. He even let me call him grandpa since I didn't have one... He was a great man. I will miss him so much. My heart and prayers go out to the Jewett family.

When my daughter Jessica and I lived with Jim and Kristina, we had a very happy home. He was a good man, a very loving boyfriend and a great father for the girls. I will cherish my memories, laugh at the jokes, and be thankful for his love and affection.

To the family of James Jewett,
My thoughts and prayers go out to each one of you at this time. I did not know Mr. Jewett, or do I know any of his beloved family members. This story just hit very close to home for me and my sister. Our late Father worked for Greyhound Lines for 28 years, before he had to retire. My Father loved driving for Greyhound, and he had his daily "run" down to San Francisco, in which he really enjoyed the short trip. May your Father rest in peace.
