James McVicar Obituary

Jim McVicar, known to family and friends as "Jimbo", passed away peacefully in his hometown of Sacramento on August 19, 2017 at the age of 72 years with his family by his side. Born in Sacramento in May of 1945, Jim spent a great part of his childhood living in Big Sur and Big Basin State Parks where his dad was a ranger. He graduated from San Lorenzo Valley High School where he played Football and Golf. He later joined the Marine Corps and was stationed at Camp Pendleton. After an honorable discharge Jim went on to a successful career as a Salesman where he worked for many companies which afforded him the opportunity to travel around the US and the World. Jim later moved to Dallas, Texas where he had continued success in business. It didn't take him long to start saying "Ya'll" and "Darlin'". A proud Texan indeed, but his heart always remained in California. Jim was a loyal and Faithful 49ers fan who was never bashful about wearing his Red and Gold as a reminder to his Dallas friends and clients of his "Faithfulness". Jim ultimately returned to Sacramento in early 2017 where he spent the rest of his days with his family that he loved so dearly. Jim is survived by his son Rob McVicar and his wife Kristin; 3 grandchildren, Ian Robert, Anna Robin and Emily Grace. Jim is also survived by his loving siblings Jaynee (Jerry) Trueblood, Anne (Jess) Harris, Mark (Vicky) McVicar as well as many other extended family members and loyal friends. A service will be held at 10:30 am, on Thursday August 31st at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road Dixon, CA 95620. Jim and I were very close in Boulder Creek. We often double dated with girls camping at Big Basin State Park (Rangers gave us tips on what campsites). He introduced me to golf and we worked together at Johnnie's Super Market. Once a Marine always a Marine. Semper Fi brother.

I was Jim's first wife and although our marriage didn't last, I always remained a friend to him and his family. He was the most likable person and could always brighten up the room with his great smile. May we meet again in the great sky of love.

Jim was a long-time classmate of ours at San Lorenzo Valley High School and a fun loving guy. He was outgoing, positive and a good friend. Fortunately our class has had several reunions, one not too many years ago and Jim came from Texas to join in the fun, contributing lots of memories of time spent with so many of us. It was so good to see him and I think most of us felt like the crazy teenagers we were then, once again. He will be truly missed. My thoughts go out to his family, he was so proud of you all and I know you brought him much joy.

So very sorry for your loss Rob. Your dad was a mighty warrior when it came to fighting for his health, and he won many of those battles. He always had a great sense of humor and cheerful upbeat attitude. May God bless you and your beautiful family with peace during this time and always.

Rob,
I had the pleasure of knowing your father and working with him during my 17 years with Cocard and later SPS. Please accept our condolences to you and your family. He was a great guy and until the disease got the best of him he was always up and ready to handle anything that came his way.

Jimbo, was a dear friend to me and my family for over 15 years. I was hired by Jim back in January 2002 to be his personal assistant. Since that time, Jimbo and I went thru many changes in our personal lives. I attended his wedding, and in 2013, Jimbo gave me away at MY wedding. He was like a big brother to me and ALWAYS supported me and I loved him for that and his undying friendship. I will miss you dearly my friend...I hope you are enjoying reuniting with all of your friends that you loved so much that left this world before you. Till me we meet again Jimbo...Rest in Peace.
