Jane Reilly Obituary

Jane Teresa Reilly nee Doherty of San Francisco died Friday, August 26, 2016 surrounded by family. She was 99 years old. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, James P. Reilly. She is survived by sons James (Jovanne), Timothy of El Centro, CA, Matthew of Austin, TX, Kevin (Janice), and Paul (Deborah) of Washington, DC. She also was predeceased by her twin children, Michael and Maureen. In addition, she is survived by six grandchildren, Domenic, Eamon, Anthony, Caitlin, Bridget, and Maura Ann. She also is survived by her sister Sally Morris of Fair Lawn, NJ, sister-in-law Evelyn Doherty of Redmond, Oregon, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers George and Brian, and sister Mary Yagle. She was born Jane Teresa Doherty February 8, 1917, in Tacoma, Washington, the oldest of five children. She attended Marylhurst College in Oregon before graduating from Seattle College (now Seattle University) in 1938. She met her husband Jim while they both worked at the naval shipyard in Bremerton, Washington, during World War Two. They settled in California, living in Redwood City, Sacramento, and San Francisco, where she lived for the last 39 years of her life. She and Jim were active members of Star of the Sea parish. The family also lived for a period in Reno, Nevada. Wherever she lived Jane was active in her parishes and the schools her children attended. She was a lifelong Democrat who was known to take her children to a political rally or two. She was an avid bridge player, playing with various groups into her 90s. She loved to read, to travel, to debate the issue of the day, but most of all she loved her family. She especially doted on her six grandchildren. The family is grateful for Connie Averion, Josefa Ledesma, and Mirella Sanchez who helped care for Jane in the final years of her life. Friends may visit Tuesday, August 30 from 7:00PM at Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave. Daly City; the Rosary Vigil will follow at 7:30PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 31 at 10:00AM at Star of the Sea Church, 4420 Geary Blvd. at 8th Ave. San Francisco. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 1500 Mission Road, Colma.
