Jeffrey Applebaum Obituary
September 30, 1944 - November 28, 2022
Rancho Murieta, California - On Monday, November 28, 2022, Jeffrey Applebaum, 78, beloved husband, father, grandfather and healer to many, passed away with his family at his bedside. Born to George and Gloria Applebaum in Seattle, WA, he graduated from The University of Washington with both his undergraduate degree and his Medical Doctorate. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Mu. He served in the Army as a Major at Fort Ord in Monterey, CA. After an honorable discharge, he moved to South Lake Tahoe, CA, where he opened his own family practice and helped found Temple Bat Yam, the first Jewish Temple in South Lake Tahoe. Jeff moved to Folsom, CA, in 1990 and worked for Mercy, Kaiser and finally UC Davis as a family practice doctor. He "retired" from private practice in 2015 and opened his own psychiatric office where he saw patients until days before his passing. When he wasn't practicing medicine, Jeff loved to travel, play golf, bowl, fly drones (and lose them), drink good wine and enjoy his friends and family. Jeff is preceded in death by both of his parents. He is survived by his wife, Ivy, children Sam Applebaum (Laura) & Laura Barrett (William), stepson Kyle Norby and his beloved dog, Lucy. Jeff also leaves behind his siblings, Marilyn Cappa (Claude) and Robert Applebaum (Linda), four granddaughters and many, many friends. Services will be help on Dec 6 at 10:30 am at Miller Funeral Home in Folsom, CA. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to one of the charities that Jeff cared about greatly: Operation Smile, The Humane Society or your local food bank.

It's been over a year and I still can't believe Dr. Jeffrey is gone. We became so close in two years of him helping me sort out things I would still suffer without his generous ability to give me his time. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family. Know that he was a great human. One who made a very positive impact on my life. Thank you for sharing his time with me. I feel blessed to have met him and to have been mentored by him. God bless you and rest in peace my dear friend. I still miss you. Always will.

I remember the days at UCD, Pri-med conferences. Jeff was a great Doctor and mentor to me. Rest in Peace.. Shalom.

I met Dr. Applebaum in Oct 2003 at UC Davis Med Center Folsom Office. I was having a mental health crisis and he was the one with the earliest appointment. What a blessing to have connected with him. I improved greatly under his care because he properly diagnosed me.
Dr A helped me through postpartum. Workplace stress. Career burnout. Typical physical ailments. He helped my husband tremendously as well. What I have appreciated most is his concern and quality of care for my 12 year old daughter´s mental health.
Dr A taught me how to be a better Person. Wife. Mom. Mental health advocate. Because of him, I understand my diagnosis but I also know I don´t need to let it define or limit me. I have embraced it.
I talked with Dr A at least twice a month usually to discuss my daughter or my volunteer work. I will miss those monthly talks. I will miss his mentorship. I will miss his fatherly suggestions. Most of all, I will miss his wisdom and genuine kindness to humanity. He was one of a kind.

Dr. Applebaum was a great physician never discounting systems and always researching new ways to help his patients. He was also a friend to our family. Condolences to his family. He will be missed by his family and all those that were his friends.
