Joan Hisamoto

1947 - 2025

Joan Masaye Inaba Hisamoto was born in Denver, CO, to Kiyoko and Richard Akira Inaba on January 13, 1947. She passed away on October 5, 2025, leaving behind her husband, Tom Hisamoto; stepmother, Mrs Rieko Inaba; siblings, Louise Morimoto, Jean Tonooka, Gay Taira, Fred Inaba (Lianne), Olivia Waterman (Bob), and Gloria Inaba; and many nieces and nephews.

After graduating from Fresno High and Fresno State, Joan came to Sacramento to work in the family businesses, North American Food, North American Trading, and N A Sales. Eventually, Joan earned a reputation among the employees and their families as everyone's "auntie."

Joan's kindness, generosity, and thoughtfulness also showed up when she always remembered her many relatives' birthdays, Christmas, and New Year's celebrations. Another result of Joan's big heart was her lifetime support for fundraising by local churches and community organizations.

Joan loved tennis and was a fierce competitor. She first worked hard at the game by taking on her older sister. Later, she played with friends and her husband, Tom, whom she met on the tennis court. She was always humble about her prowess on the courts, but won seven trophies and, as Tom remarked, "the balls always went back." Joan also enjoyed the thrill of a good game of chance.

She will be missed.

A memorial service will be held at the Buddhist Church of Sacramento at 2401 Riverside Blvd in Sacramento, on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at 1 p.m.
