Joe Shackelford Obituary

SHACKELFORD, Joe Carl

82, of Rancho Cordova, CA, died peacefully in the early morning on August 16, 2005 at Providence Everett Medical Center, in Everett, Washington. He will be missed deeply by his family and friends and will always be remembered for his generosity, high spirit, sense of humor and his love for people. Joe was born in Lamesa, Texas, on August 31, 1922, the youngest son of Joe Beauchamp and Lettie Edna Shackelford. Joe was a retired Major in the United States Air Force, and had been a Navigator on B-29 Bombers as well as a Generals' Aide before he retired as Executive Officer of the Navigator Training Command at Mather Air Force Base, in Rancho Cordova, CA. Joe married Margaret Fay Beam in 1948 and had 40 wonderful years of marriage. Joe was very active in the Rancho Cordova Community. He was a member of the Rancho Cordova Community Council, the VFW, Caledonia Club, the American River Grange, Genealogical/ Historical Council, Mather Memorial Plaza Advisory Board, the Advisory Group for Mather Community Campus and a Red Cross Volunteer just to name a few. Joe is survived by his daughter, Donna Jones of Snohomish, Washington; son in-law, Ethan Jones of Snohomish, Washington; grandchildren Ryan, Brett and Justin Jones of Snohomish, Washington; nieces, Pat Grant, Margaret Smith, Bobbie Comstock, and June Dollarhide; nephews Hardy Shackelford, JB Shackelford and Harry Merriman. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret, step daughter Shirley Ann Stark, his parents and his two brothers and five sisters. Everyone is welcome to join the family for viewing and visitation to be held on Tuesday, August 23 from 1pm-5pm at the East Lawn Rancho Cordova Funeral Home, 10450 Coloma Road, Rancho Cordova, CA; (916) 732-2020. A memorial service will be held the morning of Wednesday, Aug 24, at 10:00 am at the Cordova Church of Christ, 10577 Coloma Road, Rancho Cordova, CA followed at 11:30 am, by a graveside service with military honors, at Fair Oaks Cemetery, 7780 Olive Street, Fair Oaks, CA. A very special thanks to the wonderful staff at Merrill Gardens in Mill Creek, Washington and to Doctor CJ Kuan for taking such wonderful care of dad since he moved to Washington state almost a year and a half ago.

Joe was a pleasure to work with in his roles as Mather Restoration Advisory Board member and Grapevine paperman. I enjoyed his enormous fruit cornucopia at harvest time and his faith, commitment, and sense of humor.
