Foster CIty, California - John Drobny, November 8, 1941 - July 14, 2023 peacefully passed away in sleep, at his home in Foster City, after a long suffering from a neurologic disorder.
Born in Redding, California, before his first anniversary his family moved to Sacramento where he lived most of his life. He graduated from Sacramento High School in 1956, as the 100th generation of alumni; from University of California, Berkley in 1963, with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration and obtained an MBA from San Jose State University.
Appointed by Governor Ronald Reagan, John served as the Deputy Director of the Department of Consumer Affairs, as Executive Vice President of California Association of Healthcare Facilities having regular appearances before the Congress and State Legislature. He served as CEO of Arizona MediCal program, as CEO of several major California hospitals. He supervised the implementation of MediCal and multi-hospital shared services program and is the father of California Automobile Repair Act. In later years he developed a successful business as an independent consultant in Medicaid reimbursement system.
An avid reader and a student of history, a refined world traveller, a passionate biker and a golfer, above all he manifested a passion for modern cars. As a child he was a dedicated clarinet player in a band along with his best friends, in retirement he was the inspiration for a character in a novel.
He is survived by his wife Sarah, "the most important project of his life", as he liked to say, his two daughters Kara Howard and her husband John, Michele Diamond and her husband Steven and a grandson, Blake Diamond.
At his request, services will be private.

Dear Sarah, may John find his peace and you as well knowing that you have done everything and beyond. We are very honored to meet John after I moved to California and it was a great pleasure to talk to him. You were his eyes and his right arm in the last years, and he trusted you and loved you an ocean deep. His memory will be forever guarded by your thoughts and prayers! Rest in peace, John Drobny!
