John Legarra Obituary


LEGARRA, John Andrew
Passed away peacefully at home in Sacramento on June 18, 2009 at the age of 96. Born in Marysville, CA on November 1, 1912 to Spanish Basque immigrants. Graduated from UC Berkeley in Civil Engineering and worked in private industry prior to joining the Division of Highways in Fresno, CA. Volunteered in the Navy during World War II where he met his beloved wife Dorothy V. Morehead. They settled in CA where he returned to the Division of Highways, ultimately achieving the rank of State Highway Engineer. Devoted father of Steve Legarra of Folsom, CA, Bonnie Hotz of Sacramento, CA, Jim Legarra of Lake Almanor, CA and Barbara Legarra Lindrum of Montebello, CA, and father-in-law of Karen Legarra, Michael Hotz and Scott Lindrum. Cherished grandfather of Andra Legarra Speck of Rocklin, CA, Elisa Legarra, and Rachel and Sarah Hotz of Sacramento, CA, and great-grandfather of Ethan, Abigail and Ameila Speck. A memorial Mass will be held 10:00am Monday June 29 at Holy Spirit Church, 3159 Land Park Drive, Sacramento, CA 95818. Remembrances may be made to the Sacramento Loaves & Fishes. W.F. GORMLEY & SONS, FUNERAL DIRECTORS.
