I played many years as a practice partner for Jack. His backhand crosscourt off the court, great serve- and drop shot destroyed many players. He was number one freshman player at u c california--number one doubles at cal varsity and helped beat gardiner malloys u florida with the clinching doubles win. He ad 2 wins over Malloy in senior singles-Malloy was a internationally ranked player until he was 40. He gave jack an autographed copy of his autobiography. jack was always humming tunes from his band while at cal He started tennis as an early age by winning a tennis racket, He played at public courts in alameda california. He watched the greatest dropshot artist Rocky Reed-father of Whitney Reed--and thats probably why Jack had a great drop shot- He had a uncanny sense of reading the ball and anticipation- tony damiani

Found this picture of Jack that I took. This was a finals match from the 1982 Fourth of July Tournament held at McKinley Park.

It was saddening today to read of the passing of Jack. Like a lot of us, I knew him from tennis. He was a great player. Still remember the only time I played him in a tournament. He was probably in his early 50s. Like a lot of others over the years, he took me apart that day. The last time I saw him on the courts, he was in his ninties playing with his weekday group down at McKinley. Even though spotting at least 20 years to everyone of them, he still had the smoothest and best strokes on the court that day. Your dad was a great guy that a whole lot of us have good memories of. You will be missed Jack.

In all the years I knew your dad I didn't know he played the trumpet. Your dad touched many lives. We are all better for it.
