Folsom, California - John, a resident of Sacramento for 34 years, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully at Mercy Folsom Hospital on July 24, 2022. He was surrounded by his family and the most compassionate doctors and medical personnel.
John was born in Rizes, Greece. He was a genuine, hard working man who took great pride in his family and culture. His strong work ethic was instilled at a young age when he helped his mother and family survive the Nazi occupation as his father fought in the war in Greece. He came to California in 1953 and worked at his uncles farm in Lodi. He moved to Chicago, where he achieved the American dream when he married Sofia, started a family, and owned various businesses, most notably Chico's Produce. He was also proud to become a US citizen. After retirement, he moved back to Sacramento permanently, but never stopped his hard work and dedication to his family.
John is preceded by his parents Kyriakos and Katerina Tsakopoulos, his siblings George, Maria (Constantine), Chris, Stavroula, and his wife Dina.
John is survived by his brother Angelo and wife Sofia; his sister-in-law Drosoula; his first wife Sofia; his son Frank (Jeanne); his daughters Maria (Mario), Cathy (Leo), and Lisa; his seven grandchildren Jonathon (Morgan), James, Euvangalos, Katerina, Angelina, Angelo, and Julian; his great-granddaughter Sofia; along with many nephews, nieces and extended family in the US, Greece and Australia.
A Trisagion will be held on Monday, August 1, 2022, at 7:30pm at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, 600 Alhambra Blvd, Sacramento. Funeral will be private for the family.
