Joseph Castiglione Obituary

CASTIGLIONE, Joseph
Joseph Castiglione, 89, returned to Heaven after a brief illness in Sacramento, CA on May 26, 2005. Formerly from San Diego, CA, Joseph was born Sept. 28, 1915, as Giuseppe Giovanni Castiglione in Bayonne, NJ. Joseph quit school at 13 to help support his family and eventually served in the Army and Air Force. A veteran of WW II, his military career spanned more than 27 years. He was a member of the American Contract Bridge Assn., an avid reader and loved to listen to Italian and Mariachi music. Joseph taught us many things: love, honor, respect, and the importance of family. Generous with his time and spirit he was loved by all who knew him. Son of the late Fortunato and Rosalia Castiglione; preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Sibyl. Lovingly referred to as "Papa Joe" he is survived by his daughter Gwen Green of Sacramento; granddaughters Rebecca Castiglione of Sacramento, Belinda Ekstrum of Yuba City, CA; great-grandchildren Sarah and Austin Castiglione, Amanda and Ryan Garcia, and Jessica Ekstrum; and nephew Carlo (Martha) Castiglione of Kingston, NY. Private services will be held in Sacramento. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans Administration.
