June Farrell Obituary

June was born June 10, 1923, and passed away peacefully the afternoon of August 4, 2009, at the age of 86. Originally from Roseau Minnesota, June moved to California in 1944. There, she worked as a nurse at Dewitt Hospital in Auburn, where she cared for wounded veterans during the Second World War. It was there that she met her husband of 63 years, Captain Richard T. Farrell, whom she cared for after his combat injury. In 1955, she began working in the dental field as a dental assistant, and in 1972 acquired her bachelor's degree and teaching credential in that specialty. She continued on with her work, and in 1976 obtained her master's degree from San Francisco University. She was pivotal in establishing the Registered Dental Assistant program, and was the first Registered Dental Assistant in the State of California. She went on to teach dental assisting at Sacramento City College, and after 20 years, retired a professor emeritus. She has been active in many clubs and organizations over the years, including the Community College League of California and the National Association of Investment Companies. She also enjoyed traveling, gardening, and being with friends and family. June is survived by her husband, retired Lt. Col Richard T. Farrell, sons Bob, John and Ron, and grandchildren Heather, Sarah, Alina and Jillian. The Farrell Family would like to thank Eskaton Village for their tender loving care so she and Richard could together continue to enjoy a full, happy life.
