Today is the one-year anniversary when God gathered Karen in his arms and welcomed her into heaven. Although I am without Karen in the physical sense, I talk to her often, retelling her silly stories of things we've done together. That makes me laugh. I think about Angelo, Fran and Julie, Al and Anna, and how I can not imagine the pain they feel in their hearts because Karen is not here with them. I believe she is still right here, close to her family and friends, guiding us through each day. I love and miss you Karen. Not a day goes by that I don't think of you. Love, Pam

Dear Karen - by boss, my friend:
Like so many others, your passing is still not real to me. I, too, keep thinking you are just late for work or on a short little vacation. I keep reliving past conversations we had both work related and personal. We always had so much to share. There were times we had our little disagreements, but we always made up. I remember so vividly those times when we would have to deal with a crisis in cashiering. As our manager, we would look to you for the answer. You'd put your hands up to each side of your head and say "Okay - this is what we're going to do - this is what we're going to do." I now wonder what it is we are all going to do without you. We are getting by each day slowly, minute by minute, hour by hour - but we talk about you and laugh about times we shared because we want so much to keep your spirit alive. None of our lives will ever be the same now that you are gone. It is truly an end of an era in cashiering but I can promise you that you will never be forgotten. I appreciate everything you did for me both personally and professionally. I know I wouldn't be where I am today without your love and support. I know you are looking down upon us and giving us the strength we need to carry on. You were certainly our angel on earth and will be everyone's angel from above. Thank you my friend for being such a wonderful and caring person. I will see you again one day and we will carry on where we left off. I love you! P.S. As you would say when you would leave for the day - Peace out!
Dear Angelo, Fran and Julie:
I just want you to know how much Karen meant to me. She was truly one of a kind and I will miss her every day for the rest of my life. My heart goes out to all three of you and I pray that the wonderful memories you all shared will be what helps you get through the many hard days ahead. I will always be there for you if you need me.

Although it has been several years since I worked for Karen at DCA, she has always been near and dear to my heart. She took me to the first Women of Faith Conference and I've gone to several since then. Karen's faith in God and the conference were an inspiration to me that I will keep with me always. She was a dear friend to me and my family. My son remembers his babysitter as 'his friend Fran'. Her Papered Chef parties were always fun and she made the office a much more fun place to be too!! She was always willing to do ANYTHING for her staff, to help them in any way for whatever the need may be. She was by far the most unique and caring 'supaviza' that I've ever had!! I know she's an angel in heaven now and will NEVER be forgotten by those of us who were blessed to call her friend.
May God bring comfort and peace to her family and friends who mourn her passing.

Someone said to me " I am sorry to hear your boss passed away". I told them I may have lost my boss but more importantly I lost my FRIEND!!!!! I can not stop thinking about her. She was taken so soon from us. Lately I notice I miss her even more. I miss my friend more than anything. It did not hit me like others as I was used to her being away for a couple of day's, but now I am not looking for my boss for questions or to sign off on a deposit. I am looking for my friend to talk to. She is no longer there for advice, comfort or direction and never will be in this lifetime again anyway. I will miss her terribly! I did not realize just what an impact she had on me. I am searching for her and expect her to be back at anytime. Knowing she will never return. It is hard to say goodbye to someone who meant so much. All I can do is try. Karen, you will never be forgotten! You were SPECIAL!!!!! I have met many people over the years but not many made the impact you did. You literally changed my life for the better. That is a gift that not many are able to give. You were a giving person. I miss you everyday my friend! You will live in my thoughts and prayers forever. You are an angel now. I always new you were but now you are a REAL angel!!!!!! I LOVE you Karen Calamia!

Karen rode the same vanpool as me and although she usually was the absent rider, we all loved her spunk and laughter and we kidded her all the time about always "promising" to see us the next morning for the van. I will miss her and her stories. She always had a good one to tell to keep us awake riding home.

I met Angelo in 1976 when I first started work. I grew up with him and his family for the few years that we worked together. I also met his wife to be, Karen, during those years. There use to be bumper stickers that said "Where the Hell is Rescue". We all found out where it was because Angelo was up there all the time. At Some point in our lives we lost touch (something I will always regret). We forever lived in the same community, and I remember seeing Karen at the grocery store every so often (the one where his brother worked) she would always give me a hug and ask about my family and friends we had in common. Ang, not everyone receives a gift from God, you most certainly did in Karen.

To Karen's Family,
I have known Karen since the Department moved to 4th and R Street in 1992. Her pleasant personality and beautiful smile will always be remembered by those who knew her. I know she will be watching over you from heaven. May God Bless you and be with you in this time of sorrow.

I first met Karen some 25 years ago when she first started with DCA, and I handed her the new employee paperwork to complete. We immediately hit if off when she found out my last name was Wright. We were real pals in the early days. Even though it's been several years since we spoke, I have fond memories. I was most excited to hear of Karen's deep faith. To the family, I'm am very sorry for your loss. To Karen, my sister in Christ, I'll see you again. Bless you!!

You were one of the best friends I've ever had. I am thankful that I was able to have known your generosity, sense of humor, and your friendship. Angelo and family,
Karen was a special person who cared deeply about everyone and everything. I was honored to have met Karen and to call her my friend. Karen and I spoke in length on June 30th and we had the opportunity say "I love you" to each other. Karen was to call me on Monday to schedule lunch while she was on her three week vacation, instead I received the call to inform me of her passing. I can't express the saddness I felt. I will keep Karen alive with all my memories of her. I will think of her and smile for all the good and bad times (more good) and I will even laugh at some.
You and your family will forever be in my prayers.

I recently met Karen briefly in a class given by our employer. After being in contact by phone and email for a number of years, it was nice to put a face together with the name. Her light shone through in person just as it had before electronically.
It is a blessing to know that she is with our Lord.
God Bless her family and friends.
