Karen Grussenmeyer Obituary

Karen Grussenmeyer

May 10, 1951 - December 23, 2022

Elk Grove, California - Karen Anne Grussenmeyer passed away peacefully after an illness on December 23, 2022. She was 71 years old and a longtime resident of Elk Grove. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Patricia Grussenmeyer.

Her family is deeply saddened by her death. Karen is survived by her brother Robert Grussenmeyer, sisters, Janet Brown (Kam), Beth Grussenmeyer and Christina Sciocchetti (John). She is a beloved aunt to Jennifer Angelopoulos (Tom), Elizabeth Stone (Alec), William Grussenmeyer (Allison), David Grussenmeyer (Traci), Christopher Grussenmeyer, and Dominic Sciocchetti. She is also survived by her great-niece and great-nephews Lucas, Stella, Hunter, and Charles, numerous aunts and cousins.

Karen Grussenmeyer was born at Children's Hospital in San Francisco, California on May 10, 1951. She was the eldest child to Robert and Patricia. Since her father was a FBI special agent she lived in many places around the country with her family San Francisco; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and finally settling in Sacramento.

Karen graduated from Luther Burbank High School in Sacramento. She earned an Associate in Arts degree at Sacramento City College.

Karen began her career for the California Department of Transportation in 1972. Eventually, she transferred to the State Controller's Office working there until her retirement. She loved her job and her 44 year career.

In her spare time, she volunteered for Suicide Prevention Hotline, Reading for the Blind, and the City of Elk Grove Disability Advisory Committee.

Loved ones describe Karen as fiercely independent. She loved her family, friends and close-knit neighborhood. She will be remembered by her family as a loving, supportive sister, and her daily texts will be missed.

A private celebration of Karen's life will be held by her family and she will be laid to rest with her late parents at the Williams Cemetery.
