Kelly Meek Obituary

Kelly A. Meek died December 16, 2009, in Carmichael, Calif. He was 52. He was born October 3, 1957, in Herington, KS, to James Roy Meek and Jeanne Swenson Solbach Meek and grew up on farms in Dickinson and Clay Counties Kansas where he developed a lifelong love of farm life and outdoor activities. He was graduated from Clay County Community High School in 1975 and attended Kansas State University before moving to California where he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in business at California State University-Sacramento. He was a member of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. He worked with his brothers in construction, later running his own electrical business and was a certified electrical contractor. He also earned a real estate license and was a sales representative and sales manager for several large telecommunication/electrical companies. He received awards including the Top Ten Club at Ideal Industries and regional manager of the year while at Marconi. He was proud of his volunteer participation in the Big Brother/Big Sister program and at his church, St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Carmichael. Kelly was known for his quick wit and infectious sense of humor inspired by his father. He married Daphne Engle on June 1, 2002, in Joliet, IL. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his mother; sisters Anne McVey (Bill) of Land O' Lakes, FL, N. Jean Shanefelt (Bob) of Decatur, IL, Donna Breit (John) of Palatine, IL, and Teresa Witt (Kim) of Sterling, KS; and brothers John M. Solbach (Patricia) of Lawrence, KS, Patrick D. Solbach (Jill) of Loma, CO, and Michael S. Solbach (Carol) of Lyle, WA. He was preceded in death by his father, brother James P. Meek and sister Phillis I. Minter. A memorial service is planned for Sunday, December 20, 2009, at 2 p.m. at McMillan Center - Fair Oaks Park, 8020 Temple Park Road, in Fair Oaks, CA. Services December 20 2009 2 p.m.
