Passed away peacefully after a short illness with cancer in Palo Alto, California. A loving husband, father and papa. Kelly was born in Chico, California and attended schools in Sacramento. He graduated from the University of Santa Clara, where he also earned his Law degree. He was an officer in the Army, where he was assigned to an artillery unit. He then transferred to the Judge Advocate General unit. After the service he practiced law in San Francisco and was a partner in the law offices of Keil & Connolly. He was responsible for drafting many of the leases for the large parking garages in San Francisco. He wrote the bonds for Candlestick Park, Oakland Coliseum and Menlo Park Civic Center. In 1970, he joined the staff of the San Mateo District Attorney's office in Redwood City. In 1983, he joined George Eshoo's law office in Redwood City. In 1988, he opened his own law office in Redwood City. During his law career he was in the Private Defender program, a Judge Pro Tem, a Special Master and an Arbitrator. Kelly was also involved in civic duties in Menlo Park as Chairman of the Traffic Commission, President of the Sharon Heights Homeowners Association and an active member of the Chamber of Commerce. He also ran for a seat on the Menlo Park city council. He was a private pilot and learned all aspects of flying. Second to flying was music, as he loved to sing and was in amateur productions in S.F. Kelly is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Fran: Three children, Mike and his wife Sandy of Salt Lake City, Utah, Kathy Dowling and her husband Bernie of Fremont, Maureen Ortiz and her husband Jose of San Mateo; 7 grand-children, Megan, Mckenzie Ogle; Matt, Brianna and Brittany Dowling; Mariah and Reyna Ortiz. The family will have a private service and a memorial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, 770 Welch Rd. #350, Palo Alto, CA 94304.
