Kelly Wright Obituary

Kelly Renee Cecil Wright

January 28, 1968 - July 19, 2024

Folsom, California - Kelly Wright was called Home on July 19, 2024, following a tragic accident while on vacation with her family in Kauai, Hawaii. Kelly was born in Reno, Nevada on January 28, 1968 to Donald and Carol Cecil of Willows, CA.

Kelly attended school in Sparks, NV until 1976 when she and her mother, Carol moved to start their new life in Willows, CA with Donald Cecil. As a young girl, Kelly learned baton, becoming a majorette for both the Willows Intermediate and Willows High School bands. She received numerous first-place medals and awards as an independent baton twirler proficient in the double baton, hoop baton as well as the fire baton. In her high school days, she became the organizer of her cohort of friends. She would plan movie nights and sleepovers, designating who was to bring what ingredient for taco salad. Her friends depended on her having Cheetos and Ding Dongs in her lunch. Kelly earned her marksmanship medal at Willows Rifle Club while in high school. She also was a cheerleader, and a member of both the tennis and track and field teams. In her senior year, she was the 1st Runner Up for Miss Glenn County. Kelly graduated from Willows High School, class of 1986, and her senior quote was "Nothing is a waste that makes a memory."

Kelly's confidence exploded as she went off to college and rushed her sorority, Alpha Phi, became a Sigma Chi Fraternity little sister, and went all in on Greek life. It was a bus trip down to UC Santa Barbara for the school's big Halloween celebration event where Kelly met Dean Wright. That night Kelly told her friends and family "I found Mr. Wright, and I'm going to bear that man's children!" Kelly was initiated into the Epsilon Gamma Chapter of Alpha Phi, earning leadership positions and was the Sweetheart of Sigma Chi in 1988. She graduated from California State University, Sacramento in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

Kelly married Dean on November 20, 1993, at Bidwell Presbyterian Church in Chico, CA. Kelly loved her life with Dean and their precious weenie dogs. Their love only deepened through the years and their home became a favorite gathering place for family and friends. Having children was a dream of Kelly and Dean for quite a long time. Due to health issues, pregnancy eluded Kelly for years, however her desires for a family never dwindled. At a ladies' poker night in 2007, Kelly met a friend of a friend, Cathy, who had listened to Kelly tell her story about her pregnancy hardships. That very night, Cathy, not knowing anything else about Kelly or her family, offered to be her surrogate. Several conversations later, Dean, Kelly and Cathy dove headfirst into a surrogate pregnancy. On Kelly's birthday in 2009, Cathy gave Kelly the best birthday present ever, a baby girl they named Quincy! Kelly absolutely adored every single second of watching her daughter Quincy grow up and experience life. Quincy was the light of Kelly's life.

Kelly loved everything about life, especially her own, her family, and her job. Kelly and Dean both knew how to have a great time and made every event they hosted magical. Her laugh was contagious, and you would never hear a complaint from Kelly (unless you gave her bad customer service). Kelly had many favorite hobbies including water skiing, playing cards and dominoes with her family, snow skiing, travel and vacation, hanging with friends, being an avid wine connoisseur, watching The Bold and the Beautiful soap opera, and reading Nicholas Sparks novels. She was always living her best life and she made those around her comfortable and cared for.

Kelly was a natural in sales and found her niche in marketing. She was extremely knowledgeable about pharmaceuticals and became an expert in medical conditions and treatments. Though she made an impact wherever she worked, her most recent position was the Director of National Accounts at AbbVie Inc. a Biopharmaceutical Company.

Kelly is survived by her husband, Dean Wright and daughter Quincy Wright of Folsom; her mother and father, Carol and Donald Cecil of Willows; her sister, Dawn Cecil Hampton (Hunter), her brother, Logan Cecil (Leni), nephew Ryder Cecil, all of Chico; half-brother, Whitney Crow (Cristy) of Scottsdale, AZ; and Patrick Sanderson of Carson City, NV; her father-in-law, Richard Wright of Fairfield; sisters-in-law Wendy Barton of Whitefish MT, Tracey Lee (John) of Fairfield, Deidre Scholtes (Joseph) of Vacaville; brothers-in-law, Bobby Daniels of Florida, Randy (Barb) of Vacaville, and Daren (Julie) of Sacramento as well as a host of nephews and nieces including Jared Barton, William Lee IV, Britni, Kylee, Payton and Presleigh Daniels, Sierra and Ryan Scholtes, Coleton Wright, and Cade and Chyna Wright.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Fremont Presbyterian Church, 5770 Carlson Drive, Sacramento, CA. Suggested arrival time is 10:30 a.m. Reception to follow at the church in Ferguson Hall.

Kelly and I were colleagues at Immunomedics and Gilead, we quickly became great friends, Kelly loved her work, she was passionate about the patients we helped and she always went the extra mile to find ways for us to help or reach patients fighting cancer. My condolences to her family, Dean and Quincy. I will miss our weekly calls/texts, her positivity, and that great laugh! Heaven gained an angel.

I have known Kelly since our first year at Sac State at the Sutter dorms. She was always full of light and happiness. She brightened the room whenever she arrived. Kelly and I had a number of classes together and were friends. She ended up dating (and later marrying) my good friend and roommate, Dean Wright. Kelly was always around our group functions. She was in a sorority of her own and was also the sweetheart of my fraternity, Sigma Chi. She invited us to her family's rice farm on hunting trips. We have many great memories there with Kelly, Dean, our friends and her family. Kelly will be greatly missed. Her life as Kelly may be over now, but the light she left and the spirit of her soul endures in the memories of who she was and still is.

Dear Dean and Family-
Kelly was my little sister in the sorority, my roommate in college and after, and we were in each others weddings. I can still hear her laugh and her honest, crazy way of saying things. We lost touch for many years when I went though a divorce, but were reunited in 2018- and I realized then how much we had shared for so many years. I´m so very saddened to hear this news and have dreamt and thought about her constantly since I found out. She was such a large personality, she is sure to leave an enormous hole in our lives. I am so grateful for the wonderful memories and pray you all can find peace
Love, Jenny Burkart Trapani

Thank you for providing such a beautiful description of Kelly´s life. There were many things about her that I never knew, but none were surprising. She was one of the smartest, most enthusiastic and selfless women that I have ever known. I always loved the opportunities we had to work together at Amgen. I´m so happy to hear that she was finally able to have a daughter as well as her loving husband and family. Her light will continue to shine in the hearts and minds of everyone who knew her. Rest in peace Kelly.

News of Kelly's untimely passing has been devastating. Kelly has always been such a bright light in all the lives she touched. Waves of sadness and disbelief have repeated since I received the news from her family. I just had dinner at their house the Saturday before with other friends. We had taco salad, which apparently is a favorite of Kelly's since high school. I will miss her laugh and beautiful smile. I've always appreciated Kelly's joyous personality, adventurous spirit, and her intentionally making sure she spent time with family and friends despite her busy life. I could always count on a good game of Mexican dominoes at least once a year at Dean and Kelly's. My poker party is where Kelly met my former roommate and her future surrogate who delivered the light of Kelly and Dean's life - Quincy. Their daughter is beautiful inside and out thanks to her awesome parents. I've also been blessed with meeting Kelly's parents and siblings over the years. We will all miss Kelly's bright light, but I will always be grateful to be lucky enough to have it shine on me over the last 18 years.

My condolences and love to Kelly's family. Although we worked together such a long time ago at Kendall Healthcare, Kelly became my friend. I even got to visit her in Sacramento one time to meet her family and beloved dogs. While we haven't caught up in a while we still stayed in touch all these years. The world lost such a bright light, but I know she's shining her light down and watching over her family.

I met her on Thursday July 18, the day before her unfortunate passing when she came in my store and saw a dress she liked. I helped her get the dress shipped to the place they were staying at and she was very excited for it. According to my coworkers, the family came in to exchange the size to something that her daughter can wear after the untimely event. Even in a brief interaction, I could tell she was a lovely lady and was full of joy. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I had the pleasure of working with Kelly at ImmunoGen and Abbvie. Kelly was passionate, driven, positive. She was generous and willing to teach others. She genuinely care about the patients with ovarian cancer and was willing to go above and beyond to help them. It is heartbreaking that she is not with us anymore.
