Kenneth Miller

Our beloved Ken passed away peacefully on September 5, 2014, at the age of 95. A Sacramento County native, he was born on September 23, 1918. He graduated from Galt High School in 1937 and a few years later, headed to Santa Cruz where he spent the remainder of his life. In 1942, he married his sweetheart, Lois, with whom he had three daughters. Ken first worked at a chicken ranch, was a candy salesman, and finally, started his own business, Ken Miller Foods. After selling the business in 1982, he and Lois embarked on many adventures in their RV, with Ken's mother-in-law, Karine, in tow. He was really only retired in name, having volunteered at the Grey Bears for over three decades up until the month prior to his death. He was a loyal Giants, A's and 49ers fan who was attending baseball games until a few years ago. He loved corny jokes, but could never get to the punch line without laughing, and was a devoted reader of the Pickles on the comics page. He was a hopeful lottery player, a moon-watcher, and vanilla ice cream connoisseur. We will miss him terribly, but have a million memories of him to sustain us and keep us smiling. Ken is survived by his wife of 72 years, Lois, and his daughter, Joyce. He is also survived by his older brother, Marion, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and the friends he made throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his daughters, Jean and Beverly, and his grandson, Stevie. Services will be held at Oakwood Chapel, 3301 Paul Sweet Road, Santa Cruz, CA 95065, on September 27, 2014, at 1 p.m. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, Ken's family respectfully requests donations be made in his name to Grey Bears or Hospice of Santa Cruz County.
