Kevin BURKS Obituary

BURKS, Kevin Kent
Aug. 29, 1960 - Oct. 11, 2011
Kevin Burks entered into eternal rest far too early on October 11, 2011 at the age of 51. Kevin is preceded in death by his mother, Patricia L. Burks and his grandparents Mona and Ed Zersen and Samuel and Marie Burks, Sr. He is survived by his loving and much loved daughters, Jennifer Liddicote and Melissa Burks along with son-in-law Clint Liddicote and three grandchildren; Bailey, Mackenzie and Jacob Liddicote. Kevin is also survived by his father Samuel Burks, Jr., brothers Dustin Burks, Barry Burks and brother-in-law John Welsch.
Kevin was born, raised and spent his life in Sacramento. He graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1978. He had a love for life and nothing seemed to get him down for too long or get the best of him. He always picked himself up, dusted himself off and started all over again.
If asked what his greatest joy and accomplishments were, there wouldn't be any hesitation. It was his two daughters, Jennifer and Melissa. They were his pride, joy, love and life.
Not only will Kevin be missed by those mentioned above, but by other family members, friends and co-workers. Until we see you again, rest in peace and remember we love you!
A celebration of Kevin's life will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery on Monday, Oct. 24, 2011 at 11AM. A private burial for family only will follow. Go past main entrance of St. Mary's, turn into 2nd driveway.

I met Kevin 25 years ago at Bel Air. He was the graveyard grocery Manager and lead a pretty rowdy crew. But what I noticed about Kevin that separated him from the rest was that he was a true leader. I admired his ability to communicate effectively and keep his guys in line. Kevin's standards were pretty high, but he brought out the best in everyone on his crew.. I will never forget how quick Kevin was with numbers, it used to fascinate me how he'd remember how many cases were needed for each aisle and kept track of everyones totals in his head! When Kevin spoke, people listened. He was smart, brutally honest, and always got the job done. I remember waking up several times in the morning by my doorbell and when I looked out the peephole there was 2 "12 packs" on the ground, and Kev and his crew would jump out. Kevin, Greg, Gwen, Rico. Rich.....we had some great times.Kevin was alwaysn the life of the party. He is one of the funniest people Iv'e ever met. If any of you have had the pleasure of meeting Bill, you know what I'm talking about. Kevin worked hard and played hard. What I liked most about Kev was his love for his family and friends. He was protective of his friends and was always there when we needed them. They say you can tell a true friend ...If they help you move... Kevin and Bill volunteered to help me several times and turned an unpleasant situation into an entertaining and downright comical sideshow. He was a breath of fresh air and made me laugh so hard my stomach hurt. He was animated, silly, and a one man show. Kevin always talked fondly of his parents and it was obvious his father was his hero, and his mother was beautiful inside and out.He loved and respected his brothers. But the most imortant people in Kev's life were his girls. Being a parent myself, I will always admire the bond he shared with jen and Missy. I will cherish the memories of Raymond and Missy playing together, and Jen sitting on the couch eating a dark chocolate hershey's bar doing homework. Kevin was so proud of the different people they are. His confidence in their ability to make the right decision never faltered. Iv'e seen a great deal of Kevin in his girls. They are smart, and no nonsense, just like their father. Kevin's favorite passtime was babysitting his grandchildren and his face would light up when he'd talk about them. Jen, he couldnt stop talking about what a wonderful mother you are, and appreciated your husband and the life your building together. Missy, your dad said your a force to be reckoned with and will succeed in whatever it is you set out to do, and kick butt! Kevin always knew his girls were going to be ok. In this lengthy note about my oldest friend I just wanted his friends and family to know how much he loved you and I, on many occasions was witness to Kev sharing many happy memories. His girls, their mom's, his parents, brothers, and many friends, Kevin loved you all. I will miss you my friend, thank you for always being on my team. I love you.
