Kiyoshi Adachi Obituary

On May 14, 2016, we lost our beloved brother and uncle, Kiyoshi Adachi, after a brief illness. True to his nature, Kiyo was talking to family members and his care takers until the very end and caring more about others than himself. Kiyo was born in Courtland, CA on September 12, 1926, the fourth of six children. Like all Japanese Americans, Kiyo was interned during World War II and spent the war years at the Tule Lake Internment Camp. In camp, Kiyo was known for being athletic and smart. After the war, Kiyo moved back to Japan with his parents and younger brother. Kiyo returned to Sacramento and went to work for the County of Sacramento as an engineer. Kiyo stayed with the County until he retired in 1992. It was while working at the County where Kiyo met his wife Patsy. Their marriage lasted 33 years until Patsy's death in 2014. Kiyo was an unabashed fan of the San Francisco 49ers and had season tickets from 1959 till 2014 when the 49ers moved to Santa Clara. This was a passion that Kiyo and Patsy shared during their entire marriage. They also shared a love of travel that took them on many road trips throughout the country. Many of these trips involved cheering their beloved 49ers in opposing stadiums. Kiyo also had a love of the good life and sharing good times with friends and family. One could always see Kiyo in one of his trademark hats, with a big smile and ready to share stories, food and drink. Kiyo is survived by brother Akio Adachi, sister Helen Adachi, sisters-in-law Shin Adachi and Cowl Adachi, nephews Robert Adachi, Craig Okabe and family, and Jeff Adachi and family, nieces Tami Adachi and family, Shari Gee and family, and Tracey Okabe-Yamamura and family. Kiyo was preceded in death by his wife Patsy. parents Tetsujiro and Fusa Adachi, his brothers Jim and Tadashi, and sister Masako. We wish to thank all the physicians, nurses and caregivers at Mercy San Juan Medical Center for making Kiyo's last days comfortable and for their compassion and kindness. We are also glad that Kiyo has been reunited with his beloved Patsy. In keeping with his wishes, no services will be held.
