Larry Barnes Obituary

Larry Jay Barnes

November 1, 1949 - May 6, 2025

Sacramento, California - Larry Jay Barnes, affectionately known as "Uncle Larry," passed away on May 6, 2025, in Sacramento, California, at the age of 75 due to heart disease. He was born on November 1, 1949, in Dinuba, California.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, LaVerne and William Barnes. He is survived by his sister Beverly Gott; brother Dennis Barnes; sister-in-law Suzanne Barnes; nephew David Barnes; cousins Cara Moore and Jeff Willers; one great-niece; and three great-great-nieces who lovingly called him "Gruncle Larry."

Larry spent his early years in Fresno before moving to Sacramento in 1963. He graduated from Mira Loma High School in 1967 and proudly served his country for two years during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he remained in Sacramento, where he pursued his lifelong passion for fishing.

His enthusiasm for the sport led him to establish Uncle Larry's Lures, a home-based business through which he designed, built, and marketed his own line of fishing lures. Larry supplied hundreds of sporting goods and tackle stores across California and beyond. Though he eventually sold the business, his legacy endures among the many anglers whose lives he touched.

A full honors military service and inurnment will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, August 4, at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, California. All are welcome to join in honoring a unique man whose generosity and deep knowledge of fishing left a lasting impression.

Rest in peace, Uncle Larry. You will be deeply missed.
