Lauren Luttig Obituary

Lauren Serratto Luttig

November 12, 1946 - June 14, 2025

Sacramento, California - Lauren Serratto Luttig passed away peacefully from complications of Parkinson's disease.

Born in San Francisco, Lauren embodied the elegance and charm of a true San Francisco lady- sophisticated, gracious, and unfailingly poised. Proud of her Italian heritage, she was deeply rooted in the city's cultural and spiritual life. She attended St. Rose Academy and was a devoted parishioner of Saints Peter and Paul Church in North Beach, where she regularly attended Mass throughout her years in San Francisco.

Lauren earned her undergraduate degree in English from San Francisco State University, where her love of literature and communication began shaping the thoughtful and articulate woman so many came to admire.

She began her professional journey as personal assistant to philanthropist Melvin Swig at the Fairmont Hotel. Following Mr. Swig's passing, she continued her service with his widow, Charlotte Swig. Her refined presence and attention to detail led her to become Deputy Chief of Protocol for the City and County of San Francisco, where she coordinated countless civic and diplomatic events with warmth and precision.

In 1998, while planning a state dinner for the President of Romania, Lauren met United States Secret Service agent Jim Luttig, who was overseeing security. Their professional collaboration soon blossomed into love, and they were later married in 2001. She relocated to Sacramento, where she continued her distinguished career as Deputy Chief of Protocol for the State of California until her retirement.

Lauren is survived by her devoted husband, Jim Luttig; her beloved son, John Brown (Heidi); her cherished sister, Chris Lowe (Nick); and her adored nieces, Natalie, Lauren, and Hannah. She was preceded in death by her former spouse and cherished co-parent.

Lauren will be remembered for her impeccable taste, her deep sense of occasion, and the warmth and refinement she brought to every relationship and every room she entered.

Lauren and I were best friends in the Fairmomt Days is San Francisco. A friend ship that lasted forever afterwards although the later years were mostly spent on the phone as she was in Sacramento and I was in Honolulu. She will be my best friend until we are together again.
