Lurton Nathaniel "Nate" Harrison, 67, of Rocklin, CA, passed away peacefully at home after a valiant nine-year battle with cancer. He was born on April 26, 1958, in Clarksville, TN, to the late Freddie and Bettye Harrison.
Affectionately known as "Nay" to his southern family and "Naynay" to his grandchildren, Nate was a beloved husband, devoted father, loving brother, and doting grandfather. He is preceded in death by his brother Barry Harrison. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Donna (Morrill); his children Jaclyn (Morrill) Sexton and her husband Dave Sexton, Savanna Harrison, James Morrill, and Nathaniel Harrison; his grandchildren Sloane, Stratton, and Sawyer Sexton; and his siblings Donna (Harrison) Albright and Kevin Harrison.
Nate graduated from Montgomery Central High School in Clarksville, TN. A State Champion and record holder in the 1-mile run, he went on to attend both the University of Alabama and the University of Oregon on a track and field scholarship. Earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing, he eventually settled in California, where he met the love of his life, Donna.
Nate's civic spirit was sparked during his time at the American Legion Boys State. Deeply committed to youth and education in his community, he served as President of the Rocklin High Booster Club, organized an annual high school track invitational, founded a girls AAU basketball program, held a seat on the Rocklin School Board, and participated on an Education Specification Committee. He was a dedicated scout leader, coach, and football film volunteer-announcing boys' basketball games long after his own children had graduated.
A passionate sports fan, especially Nascar and Alabama football, Nate also loved politics, government, sci-fi, music of all genres, and working with his hands. Known for his integrity, honesty, and determination, he will be forever remembered for his big laugh and even bigger personality. Above all else, Nate's greatest joy was his family. "We love you, Daddy."
We are deeply grateful to Kaiser Hospice for their care and compassion.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Old St. Mary's Chapel, 5251 Front St, in old downtown Rocklin. Reception to follow.
