KAPP, Marcia Day
Passed away peacefully in Mountain View, CA, on April 30, 2005, after a long illness. She was born in Sapulpa, OK, on Sept. 14, 1939. She grew up in Mt. Shasta, CA, and was a graduate of San Jose State University with a B.A. in Art. Marcia was a member of Alpha Phi sorority. She also held a teaching credential and taught briefly in San Jose. She did graduate work in painting at the University of Minnesota with additional studies in dance and photography. Marcia taught dance and danced professionally with the Dorothy Dorbin Dancers at Lake Tahoe in 1960. She danced in the revues of Dinah Shore, Gordon MacRae and Teresa Brewer. She also did modeling work before becoming a full-time homemaker. In later years, Marcia worked as a volunteer at the information desk in the State Capitol where she was known as "that nice woman with the great smile." She delighted her fiends and family with her magnificent wit and sense of humor. She was very caring, generous, compassionate and fiercely loyal. She was a contributor to Loaves and Fishes Homeless Center in Sacramento. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernestine and John Day. She is survived by her son, J.J. Dear Barbara, J.J. and family,

I was very fortunate to have known Marcia in college. We were in the same pledge class of Alph Phi and then lived in the annex and house together. She had great beauty, but more importantly, I remember her being sweet and kind to everyone. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

I truly regret that I lost contact with my dear friend Marcia. Your mother was just as beautiful inside as she was on the outside. We were Alpha Phi sisters living together at the Alpha Phi annex and then as roommates in the Alpha Phi house. We (the Alpha Phi roommates) were so proud of her when she became homecoming queen and also Miss San Jose. Marcia was every bit as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. I'll always remember her fondly for her beauty, her artistic talents, her intelligence, and her tidiness. I send my heartfelt sympathy to you, Barbara, and all the family. Sincerely,

Linda Solomon

JJ: My heart goes out to you and your family on your Mom's passing. I met her just before she entered the Miss California contest, and I have to tell you, she was the REAL winner there! I was also fortunate to have met and played with your Dad at Cal, and you have every reason to be proud having had two great parents. Fondest Regards, Grover

Marcia's illness and passing makes me so very sad. We were Alpha Phi sorority sisters.....enjoyed such fun and good times. We were both bridesmaids for Sue Dorwin French, who has also passed away. Marcia was a natural beauty and had the most enchanting smile. She will be missed! I send heartfelt condolences to her son, her sister Barbara and the entire family.
