My daughter swam with Mariann at Rio Del Oro.... This picture is from 1981.... Just thought someone in her family might like to have it. She was so small in this relay.... And SO FAST!

How hard to think about three years already passing. While we miss Mariann's somewhat sardonic sense of humor and nearly-fanatical commitment to the Packers, it's really her that we miss. Another year serves to remind us of the place she held in each of our hearts, and that she is irreplaceable. Much love, Mom and Ramon - we continue to hold you up in prayer.

Monday I was going through some papers and found the picture of Marianne the first time we all met in Las Vegas. We had so much fun and always looked forward to our next adventure in Vegas. This year was no different, I wanted Marianne to be there, but I know she was in spirit as she was always fun-loving and happy to be around friends and family. We miss you dearly and only know that we will meet again. Much love, Sherry & Dennis

Mom and Ramon,
I pray every day that the Lord will keep you close to him. Although we don't know the pain of losing a child, know that our hearts hurt with yours at every thought of Mariann. There are days that I still want to call and tell her about the little things, like something one our cats did or give her a little jab about Jeremy finding reverse...again! I have to catch myself because in that moment I forgot that she is no longer with us. What I do remember is that rabbits were "bunny hops", Toby was affectionately known as "auchie" and that Mickey was her "bug". Most of all I remember how much she loved you.

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Nieto and Family,
My heart breaks for you as I learn of Mariann's passing. I haven't spoken to Mariann for many years, but a good portion of my late teens and early twenties was spent in an incredible friendship with her. Even though I lived in Rocklin and she in Elk Grove we managed to spend a lot of great times together. I fondly remember all the crazy circumstances we found ourselves in. I was always laughing when I was around her, as her sense of humor was one of a kind. I remember being in such awe of her because she knew at such a young age her career passion was to be a firefighter. She was a huge part of my life and am very grateful she was part of my life. I will never forget her. I will always regret we never had a chance to reconnect.

I first met Mariann online at a Nascar chatroom. One could tell her personality fit her beauty from just chatting. She was witty and humorous, caring, and kind. It was a pleasure to have met her at Charlotte, North Carolina at where else but the Coca Cola 600. She was every bit the person I thought she'd be. I am sorry for her passing. May the family find strength in the lord to help keep them smiling as Mariann made many people smile.

Dear Ray and Mary-
This is such a tragic loss. I will always recall the years we spent together while young Marianne (Speedo Nieto), and my own children swam together on the swim team here in the Sacramento area.
I remember one swim meet especially which was held in Tuolumne City. We'd all gone up there and were camping for the weekend. The town had a bunch of rowdies, and the Sherif needed to be called. Ray kept guard for us while sleeping in a tent in the park near the gazebo. The rest of us circled our wagons (campers), and feared we may need to shoot from the hip.
Those were the days which became a collection of fond memories of all our children.
Our thoughts are very much with you!

Our hearts and prayers are with you with the lost of Marianne. NASCAR brought us together and will always be wonderful memories. We enjoyed her stay with us in North Carolina when she came to Charlotte for the 600, and the many phone calls and other races we went to together. Marianne, we love you and will miss you. From Dennis and Sherry Sigmon and all the NASCAR BUSCH Officials...our condolences.

I was one of many who got the pleasure of "meeting" Mariann thru a Nascar Chat, she had such an awesome personality, a love for her cat, which always amazed me that she would actually give Mickey a bath, and her adoring, or borderline, stalking of Nascar's Jeremy Mayfield. She will be greatly missed by those who knew her whether it was in person, or online. May God grant her family and friends, the Love, Peace, and understanding of why Mariann was called Home.

I swam with Mariann many years ago as a child. Although I did not have the honor of knowing her as an adult, I was greatly saddened to learn of her passing. Even after 20 plus years, I recall a kind person and a heck of a swimmer--"Speedo Nieto". I just wanted to offer my condolences to her family and friends during this difficult time.

Mr. and Mrs. Nieto,
Many years of swimming with "Speedo Nieto" Mariann gave me a tremendous respect for her speed in the pool, quick wit in the locker room, and indellible smile. Your family is in my prayers as Mariann speeds to the "winners circle."

I remember the time you were the victim of a practical joke at the station and wanted payback. So we both conspired to make chocolate chip cookies with a laxative substitute for the chocolate chips. We came back from the store only to find many of the cookies gone and your roomate locked in the bathroom for hours. We laughed so hard tears were running down our cheeks. Now my tears of laughter are tears of sorrow. God bless you Mariann and your family. I know when I cross over you will be there waiting for me with that smile, and yes, probably holding a plate of cookies.
