Marie Donovan (DePaoli) Obituary

Marie Christine Donovan (DePaoli)

December 21, 1931 - July 29, 2024

Sacramento, California - Marie Christine Donovan(DePaoli) was born on December 21. 1931 to Dr. Charles DePaoli and Christina DePaoli in San Francisco, California. Marie sadly passed away in her home on July 29, 2024. She was a beautiful and kind person who lived life full of love, laughter and compassion for others.

Her family moved to Sutter Creek, Ca where she and her brother Charles were raised. From a young age, Marie had a love for music and the arts. She played the clarinet, the violin and the piano. Marie graduated from Sutter Creek Union High School. She attended San Jose State University and joined the Gamma Phi Beta sorority.

After receiving her degree in Education, she taught second grade in San Francisco for over 13 years. While living in San Francisco, she met her future husband, Gary. Gary and Marie were married in 1963 and had a daughter, Ellyn. They lived in the Bay Area and then moved to Sacramento.

Gary and Marie enjoyed going to Cal football games (Gary's alma mater) with friends. The family enjoyed trips to their cabin in Lake Tahoe, and also to Carmel and Hawaii. Marie always loved visiting San Francisco and Amador County and reminisced about time spent there with her family and friends.

Eventually, Marie went back to teaching and worked in San Juan Unified for many years. Marie enjoyed playing bridge, playing poker with her teacher friends, cooking, and volunteering her time at Assistance League of Sacramento. Throughout the years she was a member of St. Ignatius and Our Lady of Assumption Catholic churches in Sacramento.

Marie is survived by her daughter Ellyn, her son in-law Sean, her brother Charles DePaoli, brother and sister in-law Drew and Lolly Donovan, grandchildren Colin and Everet, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews who she loved dearly.

Donations in her name can be made to Leukemia And Lymphoma Society (www.lls.org) and the Assistance League of Sacramento (www.assistanceleague.org/sacramento/).
