WILSON, Marie Castro
Born Oct. 6, 1930 in Vacaville, CA & passed away Nov. 13, 2010 in Sacramento at age 80. Beloved wife of William Wilson for 55 years; loving mother of sons Scot (Susan) & Ty (Kristin) Wilson & daughter Tawney (Scott) Lambert. Loving grandmother of five grandchildren, Ted, Ken & Jack Lambert & Carter & Cole Wilson. Marie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Alonzo & Fernando Castro & is survived by her husband William, her sister Juanita Garcia, & her children & grandsons. She was the youngest child of Alonzo and Julia Castro, both immigrants from Spain. Reared on a ranch on Pleasants Valley Road, Marie graduated valedictorian from middle school, attended Girls State with top grades at Vacaville H.S. & graduated with Great Distinction from Sacramento City College. While raising three children she served as a Brownie & Cub Scout leader & graduated from Cal State-Sacramento in 1981 with a BA in Spanish. In later years she served as a bilingual assistant in W. Sacramento schools for 12 years; was a charter docent at the Sacramento History Museum; a coordinator of the Spanish Conversation class with the Renaissance program at CSUS; member of Sacramento County Historical Society & Humanist Assn; an avid race-walker with many awards; devoted member of the Stretch & Flex exercise class and a volunteer at Belle Cooledge Library. A Celebration of Her Life is planned for January 9, 2011 at 11am at the Vizcaya Pavillion, 2019 21st Street in Sacramento.

I didn't find out about Marie's death until February 13. Even though I only saw her and Bill at occasional meetings, I was very impressed by her warmth, charm, and intelligence. I can see how she'll be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Marie, my Mother in law was an amazing women. I loved her so much. She was an amazing Grandmother as well. We miss her. We have so many memories of her, and will cherish them always.
