Marilyn Hicks-Townsend-Wiemeyer Obituary

HICKS-Townsend-Wiemeyer
Marilyn Jean
Marilyn was born April 26, 1931 in Sacramento, California and died peacefully in her home on February 22, 2011 with her daughter Kathy, son Rex and husband Vern at her side with the help of Tahoe Forest Hospice. After graduating from Sacramento schools she married Bruce Townsend and they raised two children. PTA, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts filled the growing up years until a young Army veteran Lawrence K. Karlton set-up a law practice and she went to work part time for him. As the practice grew she became full time and the practice was joined by another attorney, Coleman Blease. The working relationships with these men became friendships including combined vacations. The principles of Larry and Coleman became a part of her life. Larry was appointed to the California Superior Court by Governor Jerry Brown and then to the Federal District Court by President Jimmy Carter. With each appointment 'the judge" took her with him to be his secretary. When making new friends she always spoke of those relationships. Following Bruce's death she married her childhood friend Vern Wiemeyer. The two families' blended and bonded and traveled together. Vern and Marilyn traveled the world together over the next twenty five years.
She is survived by her husband Vernon, sister Shirley (John) of Roseville, sister Dolores(Larry) of Spring, Texas, daughter Kathy of Loyalton, CA., son Rex (Elizabeth) of Auburn, step daughter, Lynne (Cal) of Berkeley, step daughter Tonja (Cliff) of Erda, Utah, step son John (Julie) of Glendale, Arizona, ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial will be observed in April at Odd Fellows Lawn Cemetery & Mausoleum, Sacramento. Donations and remembrances may be sent to Tahoe Forest Hospice P.O. Box 759 Truckee CA 96160, High Sierra Animal Rescue P.O. Box 548 Portola, CA or EPHC-Loyalton Hospital SNF P.O .Box 959 Loyalton, CA 96118

I have fond memories of your Mom as my Girl Scout Leader. I will always remember your family as wonderful neighbors on Cabrillo Way and I will never forget the trips to "Agate" Beach for my Girl Scouts trips. I still have my agates I collected many years ago.

I am so sorry for your loss Rex and Kathy.

See you in April.
