Dear Biskowski Family, My overdue condolences for Marty´s passing. I knew Marty in high school. He was extremely smart and always active. May God continue to comfort you in your time of sorrow.

Marty and I were students at Beloit College for all 4 years. Both of us were Anthropology and Mathematics majors. Attending a small liberal arts school, you get to know just about everyone. Marty was a great student, always willing to help someone else. I was not able to pursue either of those dreams, and I am glad to see Marty was a success in his. I will remember him as that jovial character who always made me laugh.

It seems impossible to believe that Marty is gone...I first met him at UCLA as an MA student (and my future husband's roommate). He always had a wry yet accommodating perspective on life, and had many amusing quirks that would leave us to shake our heads and say -- Oh, Marty! Among his other habits were to throw loose change into a plastic baseball helmet in the back of his car, until someone realized just how much had accumulated. He just laughed about that, just as he did about any of our commentaries about his late-night computer programming or long, long drives to Mexico and back. And he was just about the first person to come and visit us when our son was born, bringing a stuffed animal that is still with us, and that we have always called "Uncle Marty's frog."

I'll miss his laughter and wink of the eye at conferences... rest in peace...

I met Marty in August of 1984 as we were two of the four archaeology students admitted to the UCLA anthropology graduate program that fall. We quickly became good friends, having lots in common. We were both from Illinois, both loved baseball, and both loved archaeology. Marty stands out among our cohort at UCLA as being extremely helpful to his colleagues and friends with research methods. His quantitative and computer expertise were simply unparalleled, and he never minded sharing his knowledge. He also stands out for his heart and humor. Marty made a difference in all of our lives at UCLA and he is greatly missed. Kia kaha my friend.

Marty's passing has left me with a profound sense of sadness and loss. We were hired at Sacramento State in the same year (2002) and so shared a career arc over the course of many years. Beyond our professional association, he and I had a joking relationship that I will miss very much. I had the highest respect for Marty as a colleague, scholar, and a man of wit and character. It will be difficult to imagine our department without him. -- with all my deepest sympathies, Liam Murphy

Marty was a wonderfully rational guy. I feel blessed that we had him in our lives as long as we did. He is missed. I am so sorry that he had to suffer as long as he did.

Marty was a real treasure. I hope he's somewhere that needs a dedicated archaeologist and a dry wit. I'm sure going to miss him.

I'll always remember his incredibly sharp wit, intelligence, kind and gentle nature. You will be deeply missed my good friend.
