Mary Kostakis Dufour

1925 - 2018

Mary Piches Kostakis Dufour, a career educator and lifelong Roseville resident, passed away recently. Her professional and academic achievements made her a role model in her home-town, and the impact she made as a teacher, a school administrator, and as a mentor will continue to be felt for generations. Born in 1925, Mary attended Rose- ville schools and went on to graduate from the University of California, Berkeley, where she studied mathematics, history and Spanish. She began her teaching career at Clarksburg High School and later joined the Roseville faculty in the 1950's. In 1965 she was named vice principal of Oakmont High School. After retirement Mary took her life in a new direction. She married Glenn Dufour in 1982, a former Cal classmate and retired teacher and administrator. They both shared a passion for travel, reading, meeting new people and playing golf. In addition, she and her brothers and sister bought and operated the Broken Tee Inn Restaurant in Rocklin. She was a longtime member of the Sigma Phi Gamma professional educators' sorority. Mary was preceded in death by her first husband, Deno Kostakis, and her second husband, Glenn Dufour, who both passed away in 2000. Survivors include her daughter Patti Kostakis; her stepson Duffy Dufour (wife Bev) and four grandchildren; nieces Cynthia Williams Suverkrop and Donna Piches Estridge; and nephews David Piches, George Piches and Mark Williams. In the last few years she was lovingly cared for by Gina Massey and the staff at Kenmare House. The family will hold a private memorial in keeping with Mary's wishes.
