Mary GREENE Obituary

Mary Jane (Janie) Greene, 85, of Carmichael, California passed away peacefully on July 8, 2015. Her bright outlook on life will live on in the hearts and souls of all who knew her. The middle child of Lockard and Marguerite Bell, Janie was born and raised in Colton, California. She was fortunate to live in a multi-generational household that included her beloved Poppy and Nana. Janie graduated from Colton High in 1947 and then attended UC Berkeley on an academic scholarship. Janie married Dan Greene in July 1948. After several years of working on the East Coast, Dan and Janie returned to California, first to the Bay Area and then to Carmichael/Citrus Heights where they remained for the last 57 years. After her children were in school, Janie returned to college and obtained an AA degree from American River College in 1974. She worked as a Special Education Instructional Aide for San Juan Unified School District for 15 years and was actively envolved for many years in the Los Ninos Service League and was a 50-year member of the League of Women Voters. Janie was very artistic and creative and enjoyed making clothing, jewelry, batiks, driftwood mobiles and pictures and many other items, Janie and Dan went on many enjoyable trips with a long time group of friends and they also found great pleasure in the many gatherings of their Couples Club through the Unitarian Church. She and Dan traveled extensively both in the United States and in Europe. Janie also loved to attend the symphony and the B Street Theater. In addition to her sister Barbara Lovell and her brother Jim Bell, Janie is survived by three children, Nancy White, Janet King (Steve) and Larry Greene, her grandchildren Brad White (Emily), Bryn White (Melany), Jennifer Kubisz (Dan), Brian King (Christina) and her great-grandchildren Mason, Memphis, Tori, Brian Jr., Zachary and Kenzie (due in September). She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years (who passed away just two weeks before she did), her parents and an infant son Richard Mitchell Greene. The family wishes to thank the staff at The Atria El Camino Gardens for all of their care and assistance and to Ed and Pauline Douglas for their comp-anionship and undying support. In lieu of flowers, Janie requested donations be made to Loaves and Fishes, 1321 N. C Street, Sacramento, CA 95811. A joint Celebration of Life Service for Dan and Janie will be held on Friday, August 7, 2015 at 10:30am at The Pioneer Congregtional Church, 2700 L. Street, Sacramento, CA.

Ours was a great childhood... seemingly sheltered forever in the safety of The Court. Then time passed and places, experiences and other memories competed for space of those sweet memories. But alas they are still there and Janie among them. She was such a part of those childhood memories that she seems ingrained in them, unable to think about one without the other. Here's to all the Topp Court parents.. Truly they all had a part in our raising. My sympathy and prayers to all of you for the loss of not just one, but both, in such a short time. Janet, Nancy, Larry...Jenn and the rest of the grand and great grandchildren, I ask that God hold you close in his hands and help you through the path of grief to the other side of joyful memories of such special ones.

My Mom, Nellie, lives around the corner from where your Mom and Dad lived at Atria. Your Mom inspired me with her positive attitude and strength. It was an honor to have known her just for a little while.
