Sacramento, California - For our beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and aunt, Mary Dokimos Lydon, loving was the meaning of living, and this is how she remains with us after her passing on January 9 at the age of 94. Mary left us from her Sacramento home of 60 years where she spent her last days visiting with family and friends, comforting us more than we could her, and showing us – as she always did – that the key to embracing life to its fullest is embracing others with love and kindness.

It was Mary's Greek Orthodox Christian faith that always guided her, and the love of her children and family and friends that always motivated her. As a speech pathologist and therapist, and Director of Programs at Easter Seals, Mary helped countless children and adults; and as clinical supervisor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at CSUS, she taught her students how to do the same. A lifetime member of Sacramento North Soroptimist International, Mary helped women and girls achieve their dreams through education. She helped Sacramento's poor and disabled through her work with local charities too numerous to list. With Richard, her husband of nearly 65 years, she ventured out to experience the beauty of the world, visiting Europe, Japan, China, Thailand, South America, Africa and more.

Mary was the eldest child of Greek immigrants John and Helen Dokimos and the sister of Ernest Dokimos (deceased). She is survived by her children, Richard, Michael (Malinda), Mary Elizabeth, and Diane; her grandchildren, Brendon (Colleen) and Alexandre, and great grandchildren Eisley and Ava; her sisters Katherine Dole and Elizabeth Dokimos; and by her many nephews, nieces and their families.

A trisagion for Mary will be held Wednesday, January 15 at 6:00 pm, and funeral on Thursday, January 16 at 11:00 am, both held at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 616 Alhambra Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95816.
