I really liked Matt! I worked with him at Sunset Whitney CC Rocklin back in early 90's and HE WAS ONE OF THE HOME CHICKENS!!!! We worked together in the kitchen at SWCC and Matt spent a lot of time with us just loving life! I live far away now and couldn't make the trip for the service, also honestly it's hard to deal with death of a good friend. I really wish I could have seen Matt more over the years, though I know he understood and was busy with his own family and life too. Much love too all family! I remember Matt's dad telling me to come over there, park/camp in the driveway if i wanted.. Such great people, I'm so sad. I will always have good memories of Matt and he will be always remembered as a good friend and great man. Live long in memory Home Chicken MATT SPENCE, we will never forget you!!! Love Mike Bishop

I met Matt in the early 90s working together at Sunset Whitney Country Club. I was the Sous Chef at the time so ill take a little credit for his cooking skills. I could tell early on he would be successful in whatever he chose to do. Smart kid. We shared music, sports, politics, food and some practical jokes on our workmates. We all know him as a Redwings fan but ill always picture him, five days a week, showing up for work, in that tattered old aqua blue Sharks hat.
I don't know Matts family but I want them to know I am honored to have been his friend and he will be loved and remembered. Chef Mark

I worked with him for several years at Sunset Whitney, he was a character..
We used to drink beer in the back of that little blue truck after work.
(In his parents driveway)
He was special, he'll be missed..
