Melvin AH-YUN Obituary

AH-YUN, Sr., Melvin Abner
Melvin Abner Ah-Yun, Sr. died peacefully after a brief battle with cancer on Friday, August 25, 2012 in his Sacramento home. Melvin was born July 31, 1937 in Honolulu, Hawaii and moved to California in his early 20's. For the last 50 years he was an owner and bartender at a popular South Sacramento bar, The Swiss Buda. Throughout the years, he shared the spirit of aloha by always giving a warm smile and cheerful hello to all those he encountered. Melvin was also an active member of the community participating with the Ben Ali Lion's Head Unit for more than 30 years, as well as a faithful parishioner at St. Rose's Church. An avid golfer and sports fan, he loved to cheer on his favorite teams in particular the A's and Raiders. Left behind to carry on his legacy is his only son, Melvin 'Bull' Ah-Yun, Jr. (Brittney), his two beloved grandchildren, Evan Ah-Yun and Avery Ah-Yun; his cherished sisters, Eva Brub and Louise Lau and many other extended family members in both Hawaii and the mainland. A mass will be held in his honor on Saturday, September 1 at 9am at St. Rose Church (5961 Franklin Blvd., Sacramento) with a celebration of his life to follow at The Swiss Buda (2342 Fruitridge Rd., Sacramento). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to The Shiner's Hospital for Children of Northern California.

My very deepest condolences to the entire family. "Pop" as I affectionately called him, will be missed beyond expression. He was such a good man to everyone, I know he was like a father to me after my father passed. I miss his laughter and betting him $1 on baseball games...Mahalo for memories, Ohana forever.

On behalf of Family First Car & Bike Club we would like to take this moment to thank Mel for always helping our car club Family First with his generous donations every year of Turkeys when we feed the needy and homeless Dtwn. He also would let me have my annual bday parties at The Swiss. And most recently host an oldies dance called The Souleros Ball. He will be greatly missed by me, our Car Club & all his Swiss Buda Family.
