Merilyn Mohrmann Obituary

MOHRMANN, Merilyn
Died on Nov. 18, 2004, at Sutter General Hospital in Sacramento. Born Merilyn King on Dec. 28, 1929, in Pittsburgh, PA; she was 74 years old. The eldest of five children, Merilyn spent most of her childhood in Washington State. She graduated from Cheney High School in 1947 and attended the University of Washington and Washington State Univ. In 1950, she met Gerald P. Mohrmann. Her husband's educational pursuits and teaching assignments took them to South Dakota, Florida, and in 1962, to Davis. Merilyn was a voracious reader who had a great love for the ocean, sailing and history. Her life-long concern for social injustice included marching in 1965 from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, in support of Martin Luther King Jr.'s fight for African American voting rights. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by son Paul and his wife, Linda, son Brian, daughter, Regina, and her son, Peter; her grandsons, Paul, Cameron, Dustin and Nathan; and three sisters and a brother. A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life on Sat., Dec. 11, from 2:00-3:30 PM at the Davis Veterans Memorial Center. Memorial contributions can be sent to UC Regents G.P.
