Michael Cannon Obituary

Michael Shaun Cannon
June 6, 1950 - July 5, 2022
Marysville, California - With great sadness we announce the passing of our husband, father, brother, and uncle Michael Shaun Cannon at home on July 5th, 2022.
Michael, a native Sacramentan, was born to parents Clarice and James Glen Cannon on June 6th, 1950, at Mercy General Hospital, where his mother worked as an RN. Michael was preceded in death by his parents and former wife Carol Cannon.
He attended Marshall Elementary, Sutter Junior High School and was a proud graduate of Sacramento High School. He graduated from UC Davis and attended graduate school at UC Santa Barbara. After graduation Michael was drafted and served in the US Navy in Vietnam, receiving an honorable discharge.
In early life, Michael participated in the Boy Scouts of America, attaining the rank of Life Scout, and was highly active in the Order of the Arrow Scouts.
Michael's work life was varied, beginning as a carrier for the Sacramento Bee, then working at Jenovino Brothers-Bon Air Market in Midtown Sacramento. After college, he worked for the State of California, first at the California Medical Board, then the Little Hoover Commission, and finally for the Office of General Services converting a former state hospital to the Stockton campus of CSU Stanislaus. Following state service, he became the Assistant Superintendent of Facilities for Natomas Unified School District. He founded Educational Facilities Project Management, a firm that specialized in planning, financing and construction of school facilities and remodels throughout California. Working primarily with smaller school districts, Michael dedicated his work to delivering the best product in the most efficient way possible. Projects ranged from the theatre at the Performing & Fine Arts Academy â€" Natomas Charter School to a remodel of Lake Tahoe Community College, building agricultural structures for Hamilton City School District and construction for Napa Unified and Dixon Unified School Districts.
Michael enjoyed sailing, vintage cars, cooking, and enology. He was a prolific reader, consuming an inordinate number of books, magazines and papers, which made him well versed in a wide variety of subjects, as well as being one of the best couch-Jeopardy players ever known. He loved traveling, counting the North Coast of California and especially the rolling hills of Tuscany and Umbria as his favorite places to be. Michael was fiercely loyal to family and friends and was always there if you needed him. His greatest loves were his wife, daughter and his 1965 Porsche 356 C Coupe.
Michael leaves behind wife PJ Brokaw, daughter Katie and her husband Ryan, brother Pat Cannon and wife Sherri, nephews Sam and Cameron Cannon, countless friends and his beloved dog, Charlotte.
A Celebration of Life for Michael will be held for close friends and family on October 15th.

I send my sincere condolences to Mike's family. We have been friends since high school and worked together on our 50 year reunion. We enjoyed many River Cats games together in recent years. RIP Fellow Dragon.

Mike and I worked together at the Medical Board of California starting in 1984. Over the years that we worked together, I would often pick him up and we would ride into work together. I got to know Mike very well.
Rest In Peace my friend.
