Michael Sweeny Obituary

Michael George Sweeny

August 3, 1953 - March 7, 2025

Roseville, California - Michael Sweeny, beloved husband, reliable brother, caring father and grandfather, died unexpectedly from a heart blockage Friday, March 7, 2025. He was in the place he loved, the forest, working on a piece of property he and his wife, Connie, called "Bud's Forest."

Mike was born August 3, 1953 to William and Mary Sweeny in Sacramento. He was the 4th of 6 children.

Michael graduated from La Sierra High School. He was awarded Eagle Scout, an accomplishment that would be earned 3 decades later by his son, Daniel.

Mike chose to follow his father's footsteps, serving 6 years in the United States Navy.

In 1981 he met Sally McGrath. They married in 1982, moved to Colorado, then to Sonoma County where they welcomed Daniel in 1984 and Kathleen in 1985. The family bought a new home in Galt in 1988.

Mike and Sally taught Danny and Katy the Boy Scout Law (and a million more things) in that home. Once the kids were grown, they divorced.

In 2010, Michael met Connie Humbert, fell in love and moved in with her in Roseville. They married in 2017. Michael and Connie were beloved partners. They enjoyed each other's company whether they were watching the 49ers, with the Corvette Club or just petting their dogs.

Michael used the skills he learned in the Navy and his knack for fixing computers to work in information technology, finishing his career with the State of California.

Mike enjoyed spending time with family and his dogs, woodworking, knife making, canoeing, camping, backpacking, and talking about his projects.

Mike was trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.

Michael is survived by his loving wife, Connie; siblings Therese Sweeny Hart, Timothy Sweeny and Peggy Deluce; children Daniel Sweeny and Katy Meline; and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents Bill and Mary Sweeny; siblings Cathy and Patrick Sweeny.

A celebration of life will be held at noon May 4, 2025 in McKinley Park, Sacramento near the tennis courts. All friends and family are welcome.
