Michael Wilbur Obituary

2/2/1955-7/13/2012 Born in Terra Haute, IN, Alan attended schools in Savanna and Hanover Park, IL and graduated from Wauwatosa West High School Class of "73" in Milwaukee, WI. Alan was passionate about music; he played bass and sang vocals professionally for 24 years. He trimmed trees for Asplundh and did line clearance for SMUD. When a car accident left Alan quadriplegic at age 34, he did not succumb to self-pity. Instead he endured, excelled and inspired others to do the same. He earned an associate's degree from American River Community College. He worked as a tutor and IT Specialist. Alan had been living one-day-at-a-time for the last 22 years. He enjoyed playing quad rugby and was a very passionate Sacramento Kings and NASCAR fan. Alan was preceded in death by his father Jim Wilbur and is survived by his life partner Amy Thibault; mother Ruth Wilbur; sisters Sherry Conley & Dianne Mathews; brother Mark Wilbur; daughter, Kadie Collette; grandchildren Alyssa & Aidan; and many treasured family and friends. Alan continued to be an inspiration while he fought bravely against bladder cancer. He will always be remembered for his compassionate loving spirit, his sparkling blue eyes and his bright infectious smile. There will be a celebration of Alan's life with and a reception to follow on Sunday, July 29, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Foothill Community Center, 5510 Diablo Dr. Sacramento, CA 95842. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alan Wilbur Memorial fund at Wells Fargo Bank in Alan's memory.

I will miss you Alan. I remember when we met all those years ago at ARC. I hadn't been injured long and you were very supportive and encouraging. I will miss basking in the sun with you, seeing you at concerts and working out together. You touched many lives and won't be forgotten.

Hey Alan, we are so glad you finally got your ride in the sidecar. What an exciting day that was and the weather turned out beautiful! Now I can sense you jammin' with your bass guitar rockin' out waaaay up in the heavens! From the day I met you some 20+ years ago, through your beautiful blue eyes and contagious smile I felt then what I know to be true today was your unstoppable determination, a heart of gold and a soul like no other. You are the Love and Light ~ forever! You've touched many hearts, Alan. You will be dearly missed but never forgotten. Love you xoxoxo

Alan you will be missed at ARC's gym you made the gym a lot of fun. It will be weird not seeing your van on campus or seeing you tilted in your wheelchair on campus just getting some sun. I will miss running into you and Amy at concerts or discussing music with you. You will be missed you had such a sparkling personality and a great smile. I hope that you have a great jam session in the sky.

Miss you Alan. I always appreciated going to the movies with you, or just sitting talking with you or you and Amy. I enjoyed doing your care at night when I could. I will always associate the TV show Law and Order and the "Bomp Bomp" music with doing your range of motion exercises on your legs. Thank you for all the computer work we did together whether it was working on my computer or me helping you with someone else's. I LOVED watching and listening to you and Amy watch a King's game and the both of you yelling at the Ref's bad calls or at Kobe and The Lakers via the TV set. One of the many ways your strong passion came through. I live my life better and more fully because I knew you. Peace be with you and all of your family and friends.
