Miguel CASTRO Obituary

Miguel Ángel Castro Jr. (also known as Mike) was born August 5, 1954, in San Diego California. He graduated from Chino High School and graduated from San Diego State University where he decided community involvement would be his life's work. Miguel was an organizer with the United Farm Workers of America. There he met his former wife, Becky Chavez, daughter of Richard Chavez and niece of civil rights and farm labor icon Cesar Chavez. Miguel was an active organizer and steadfast community leader while championing the rights of the underserved. Miguel enjoyed a successful career serving in state government, including the Agricultural Labor Relations Board, the Fair Political Practices Commission and the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. As an investigator with the state farm labor board, he investigated violations of the law during the 1975 election at E&J Gallo vineyards. He found his love when he married Becky Chavez. They had a beautiful set of three daughters, Angelica, Raquel and Andrea, as well as grandchildren Esperanza, Michael, Nacho, Estrella, Cielo, and Mia. Miguel's loss is deeply mourned by his family and friends.

Pop, I still can't believe you're gone.I keep waiting for you to call me to tell me you passed away. You were truly my best friend and I miss talking to you everyday. I love you more than you'll ever know, Dad. Thank you for teaching me how to love, how to forgive and most of all how to fight. You make me so proud to be your daughter. I'm happy now because I know in my heart that you are finally at peace and all the angels are surrounding you. You're free now and you don't have to fight or live in pain anymore. I love you, Padre. You'll be in my heart foreve.

Mike was a great longtime friend. We worked together at Fppc. I was saddened to hear of his passing too soon. Sorry that we had lost touch over the last few years.
