Sacramento, California - Mildred Janice Mastbrook, known to all as Janice, passed away on February 8th, 2026, at the age of 90. She was born on November 5, 1935, in Akron, Ohio, and moved to Sacramento, California, in her youth, where she built a life filled with love, education, and community.
Janice dedicated her career to the field of education, beginning her journey as an elementary school teacher before moving on to teach high school at El Camino High. Teaching high school led her to special education, which was her greatest love. Her passion for teaching extended beyond the classroom as she devoted her later years to mentoring new teachers, sharing her wisdom and enthusiasm for learning until her retirement.
Janice is survived by her loving daughter, Jean Pauley, and her cherished grandchildren: Julie Beeman Richtik, Jacob Pauley Schick, and Jade Charlotte Schick. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Julie Ann Mastbrook; her husband, Alfonso Coronado; and most recently, husband Gary Paolinelli.
In addition to her dedication to education, Janice was a passionate seamstress, a gifted musician, gardener, dog lover, and a devoted friend, and lover of the theater. Her creative spirit and zest for life made her a vibrant presence in the lives of those she encountered.
A celebration of Janice's life will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Sierra Vista Community Church, located at 890 Morse Avenue, Sacramento, CA 95864.
Janice was a witty, smart, fierce, and beautiful woman whose spirit and laughter enriched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed, and her memory will forever echo in our hearts.
