Miriam Seebode Obituary

SEEBODE, Miriam Darlene
Age 75 years, born December 12, 1930, in San Jose, California, to Harvey C. Brown and Miriam Washburn. Darlene was surrounded by her church friends when she collapsed on August 6 while planning their music program, one of her many passions. Beloved wife of Charles "Chuck" Seebode for 52 years. Chuck had passed away in May 2005 from complications of leukemia. Loving mother of Kathleen Seebode Cole, Skip Seebode, Debra Seebode Pierce and Michael Seebode. Her extended family includes two wonderful daughters-in law, Theresa Seebode, Patti Seebode and son-in-law Ted Pierce. Her pride and joy were her 15 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Darlene was also an adored aunt of many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Miriam, and sister, Pat Cornwell from Chazy, New York. Darlene was a proud member of the Rancho Cordova community for nearly 50 years. She was a dedicated volunteer, particularly when it came to her children's extra-curricular activities, whether it be Mills Little League, Cordova Babe Ruth baseball, Girl Scouts or Job's Daughters. Since 1962 she was an active member of the River Valley Church (formerly Cordova Presbyterian Church) where she served as Elder and Deacon. Her charitable disposition and compassion for others was displayed through her volunteer efforts at the Cordova Food Locker. Her generosity and kind heart were an inspiration to her family and friends. She met Chuck, a star basketball player, while attending Napa Junior College in 1948-49. They shared a passion for basketball which transcended to their undeniable support for the Sacramento Kings. After their children started families of their own, Darlene and Chuck rarely missed a chance to cheer their grandchildren to victory at soccer, baseball, basketball and football games. Darlene was a person of dignity and grace who devoted her life to her family. Those that knew Darlene were touched by her loyalty, compassion and zest for life. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 12, at 11 a.m. at the Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church, 11427 Fair Oaks Boulevard, Fair Oaks, California. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to: River Valley Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 5, Rancho Cordova, CA 95670 or to Cordova Food Locker, 10499 Coloma Road, Rancho Cordova, CA 95670.

I worked with Darlene for many years. She was one of the sweetest souls I've known. I'm sure she is organizing some event in heaven right now!

My prayers are with you all. Your Mom was always so kind to me. One of my best memories of my days at Cordova Gardens was your Mom as an aide.
