Muriel TORRES

TORRES, Muriel (Cook)
Age 95, died May 9, 2013 at Citrus Heights, CA. She was born at Sutter Island, December 27, 1917 to Vernon and Frances Bogle. She graduated from Courtland High School in 1935 and attended the University of California, Davis. She worked for an optometrist in Sacramento before marrying Perry Cook in 1940. The couple raised their children and farmed on Merritt Island near Clarksburg. She provided leadership in the Cub Scouts, Girls Scouts, 4 -H and the Courtland school PTA. She also was a Red Cross volunteer. She was a homemaker and took great pride in planting a large vegetable garden every year. She also assisted with the faming operation when needed, driving tractor, growing tomato transplants and working on the tomato harvester. They also hosted many family gatherings at the farm.

After the couple divorced, Muriel worked for the California State Employees Association in Sacramento, where she made a closr group of friends.

She married Abelino Torres in 1986. They lived in Hood, CA during the summer and wintered at his Jalisco, Mexico ranch.

Up until her health began to fail, she always planted a garden of vegetables, fruits and flowers to share with her family and friends. Muriel leant a helping hand to many along the way.

She is survived by her sons, David (Kathy) Cook, Roger (Elaine) Cook and a daughter, Ellen (Orville) Hupp, her sister Lois Backman, 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
She was peceded in death by her parents, Perry Cook, brother Warren Bogle, Sr. and her husband Abelino Torres.

Cremation has taken place and no services are planned.
