Natalie Schafer Obituary

On Wednesday April 25, 2018 Natalie Stockwell Schafer quietly joined her beloved husband Rudy, her twin sister Muriel and younger sister Laura in the space or place we each personally believe we go after this life. Natalie was born November 21, 1926 in Los Angeles County to Nathaniel and Rhea Stockwell. After graduating from High School she attended UC Santa Barbara where she earned her B.A. in Education. It was there she met Rudy, the love of her life for 58 years, until his death in 2007. She taught elementary school in Southern California. In 1967 she relocated her family to Sacramento when Rudy accepted a position with the California Department of Environmental Education. She lovingly raised her three children while substitute teaching in the San Juan Unified School District. Natalie became involved in conservation and environmental teachings in the Sacramento area. She volunteered and raised funds for the Effie Yaw Nature Center and The Sacramento Jr Museum and Science Center. Natalie was also involved with her local Delta Zeta Sorority Chapter. She is survived by her beloved children Allyn Schafer, Martin Schafer and Charlotte Schafer Wager, grandchildren Kari Oldham, Kyle Schafer and Nick Schafer. There are many other names that could be added to this list. People who knew her as "Nat". People whom Nat welcomed into her home and her heart and in turn became part of her family.

"Nat" was a true blessing. Love and joy spilled-out of her and touched everyone she encountered (human, plant and animal). You could not help feeling good after spending time with her. She was the most loving, supportive wife and mother I had the pleasure to know. Her family was truly blessed by her devotion. Her face lit-up each time she spoke of her family and I'm positive her heart grew larger each time she thought of them. I was truly blessed to be witness to such gentle strength.
